U.S. and Russia should make up significant ground next week. Canada might be starting to dry up. Any more X games left? I don't like their gold chances in figure skating at all from here on out, despite some "favorites". Chan is always a risk to fall down spectacularly, Osmond is too green, and Virtue and Moir look rattled by the rumours of judge fixing and Davis and White's consistency.

Watch the Swiss rocket up in the medal rankings. They now have 5 Gold and 1 Bronze and boast a .833 Gold ratio. But of course, on ESPN, the Swiss are still only ranked #8, but I guess they don't mind too much

Speaking of medals, host Russia "just" has 2 Gold (+5S +5B though), and both in events where they were favored (figure skating). This may explain the polite, but not exactly fanatical fan support.

New "efficient" country: Poland. Four medals, four Gold. :D

Also, Russia is now the new total medal count leader, 4G+6S+5B=15. New fact I learned about Russia: they have Korean immigrants who short track pretty well!

If Germany and Netherlands were one nation, "we" would have 14 Gold, 9 Silver and 10 Bronze medals. :o

Finally Norway has managed to knock us off from #1 in the "Gold>Silver>Bronze" medal rankings. Hard to remain on top if your bob sledders bomb like Anthony Bennett and your cross country skiiers dive like Manu Ginobili!

21 out of a possible 30 medals at speed skating. We are greedy people.
