I thought it was great celebration of British innovation, struggle, organisation, culture and competitiveness that the nation has given to the world. But to each their own I guess.

I expect this wasn't shown on US and Canadian tv but was a great 3 minute introduction to the BBC's coverage of the games:

That was for the most part really bad. Sorry, almost embarrassingly so.

Reminded me more of an awards show in the later half, with Ben Stiller as Mr. Bean among other things. And do we really have to reference nearly every aspect of British pop culture the last 40 years? Did they end up pulling out the Spice Girls or not, I had to channel surf for the first time I can remember during an opening ceremony.

First part had some plus parts but was pretty average. Liked the smokestacks and I guess the rings.

@5:00, the countdown part itself, Beijing opening ceremony makes London look so bad.

i feel quite the opposite to the opinions round here. i think this ceremony showed us how good and creative it could be. it was not perfect at all, but it represented very well for what great britain stands for. espcialliy the music medle was amazing.
britain has humor. britain is the home of the pop culture. it is known for art.
if you like to see discipline, yes the beijing ceremony is your choice.

1,000,000 chinese doing tai-chi trumps a thousand brits rolling out sod.

big sport honk costas once again makes a condescending remark about a "lesser" sport of badminton

Yeah, so ... started really slow and kind of weird. Mr. Bean was a riot. Picked up as it went along, I guess... still hope they won't neglect commemorating Munich '72 at some point... let the games begin.
