Grant Holloway as well. You run 13.03 while jogging in the Heats and choke in the Finals.

Zero gold medals in the sprints for the US(If you don't count 400mH as a sprint race). Only 2 gold medals in the track events overall.

Embarrasing edition overall, it's the worst gold medal tally since 1936.

In the hepthatlon with only the 800m to go it's 1 Belgium, 2 Holland, 3 USA, 4 Holland, 5 Belgium, 6 USA for the medals. Amazing.

Edit: End result: 1 Belgium, 2 Holland, 3 Holland, 4 Belgium, 5&6 USA!

The US' heaviest freestyle wrestler is named Gable Dan Steveson.

Unsurprisingly in light of that name, he comes from a wrestling family.

If I'm understanding correctly, the world record in the 400m hurdles lasted for 23 years -- and then got improved by more than 0.8 seconds in one month. That is:

-- I think the old record was 46.78.
-- I think is lasted 23 years.
-- Karsten Warholm broke it a month ago
-- Warholm broke it again, running 45.94 in the Olympics.

By way of contrast, the non-hurdles record at the distance is just above 43 seconds. And the gold medalist in that event in 1948 ran 46.2.

have you guys seen how they handed out medals to the womens water polo?

AWESOME

instead of the person giving each teammate a medal, the medal to the second teammate and she places the medal on the first teammate and so on down the line. then the second to last picks up the medal for the last teammate and places it on her.

it pretty awesome

They've been doing that in most of the team sports. Because of covid, the guy who would usually place the medal on the athletes isn't supposed to get that close. So the athletes are putting medals on each other. It's really cool.

Speaking of covid I'm very impressed that they kept it away from the athletes while it is apparently raging all around Japan. Good job, Tokyo Olympic organizers!

What stood out to me was how the men performed poorly in all the running events in track and field. The women were slightly better with Mu and McLaughlin winning gold in their individual events and then winning gold together in the 4-400 relay. I'm 38 but I remember growing up during the 90's and seeing Men and Women easily win gold in this running events and to see them struggle to get gold is quite the experience.

The skateboarding event and the BMX freestyle events were the two new events I enjoyed.
