Predict the winner of 2016 Olympics Bids

These are the candidate cities for 2016 Summer Olympics.

Chicago, United States
Madrid, Spain
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Tokyo, Japan

Some things to consider:

Chicago - no Summer Olympics in USA for 20 years. 2010 Winter Olympics in N.A.
Madrid - London in 2012
Rio de Janeiro - World Cup in 2014
Tokyo - Beijing in 2008

These are 4 great candidates IMO. Which city do you think will win this bid?
IMO it's Chicago vs. Tokyo. Hopefully it's Chicago. But then that means no Toronto for quite some time.

Rio sounds good .. I think World Cup 2014 helps the city -- it will act as a test event to make sure everything works smoothly on 2016, and makes it easier for them to justify spend more on infrastructure, because they will be used on 2 major intl events.

And no olympics has ever been held in South America.

I thought Tokyo was currently in the lead.

I would rather have an American city win the bid for 2018 World Cup than the Olympics.

i prefer WCs in Europe where the atmosphere is usually better.

I have been following the Chicago bid very closely. Supposedly Chicago is a favorite but the IOC is not pleased with the transportation. About 90% of the venues will be within 15 minutes or less from Olympic Village (which will be on the lakefront), but the IOC wants trains going from the Loop to the lake. There are already bus shuttles available, but it's not efficient enough. Also Chicago will have to update it's train cars to make them more modern, smooth, and faster than the outdated El cars.

I'm not too sure on Rio's bid, but Tokyo and Madrid have some obstacles to overcome. If Tokyo is chosen it will be the second Eastern Asian country selected in the last 3 games. Also Madrid is right next to London which is hosting the 2012 games.

Rio is the city that may be most deserving since South America never hosted the games, but the production level won't be as great as the 3 other cities.

tokyo and madrid i think are counted out with beijing and london just 4 & 8 years between them.

so it comes down to rio and chicago and i think for the moment they are tied, but i think it will come down to rio because like stated south america has never hosted the olympics, they have the WC in such short time but olympics and WC are two completely different things.

Yeah, I think it will be either Rio or Chicago. Although I'd prefer Rio, because South America has never hosted the Olympics and, hey, it's Brazil.

when is it announced? i remember 1 day waking up and seeing china was awarded the games but cant remember when they announced it

I say Rio.... It is about time South America gets some love and I think by then Brazil will be an energy powerhouse.

well, london was selected in 2005, so i suppose that by next year during the summer we would know who will be it in 2016.

For scenic purposes, I prefer Rio or Tokyo. I think I lean more towards Rio for the same reasons most people have said here.

My vote goes to Rio... Chicago finishes 2nd... Tokyo (had Nagano in 98 and Beijing) and Madrid (Spain had the 1992 barcelona Olympics and London in 2012) ... finish distant 3rd and 4th.

Announced in Mid-Summer 2009. (7 years prior to games begin)

The stadium would be in Washington Park, and after the Olympics it would be reduced to a bout a 10,000 seat stadium for various uses.

Rowing on the lake

Soccer will be played at Soldier Field

Olympic Village

McCormick Place is the largest exposition complex in the USA, and the third largest in the world. It will host volleyball, weightlifting, badminton, table tennis, and much more.

Beach volleyball, track cycling, and BMX at Northerly Island.

Tennis in Lincoln Park

Boxing at the UIC Pavillion

United Center for basketball.

And Daley plans to modernize Chicago's transportation for the bid and for the future of the city. How that will be done I have no idea.

The winning city will be announced in October 2nd of next year.

wow all that looks pretty impressive, i'd be fine with either Rio or Chicago

I would love to see Chicago get the bid, that way I'd have a chance to go see it.

I can already see it now: The torch lighting is shrouded in mystery, as was in Beijing, as the lights go dark in the Olympic Stadium. All of a sudden the Bulls PA comes over the speakers, and says, "Torch Lighter, for the 25th Olympiad in Chicago, number 23... MICHAEL JORDAN!!!"

Crowd goes berserker.

I think Rio deserves it. South America deserves a chance.

There are several things work against Chicago. Transportation system being one (still loads better than NYC IMO). Also, Atlanta got the 1996 game, LA got the 1984 game. If Chicago got 2016, it would be the 2nd time in 20 years and 3rd time in 32 years that the olympic games are held in one country. If I were IOC I wouldn't want that.

Besides, I am not sure it makes economic sense for Chicago to hold 2016. It costs a lot of money that state and federal governments don't have.
