Medals Per Person

These are all the different countries which got a medal, with their medal per person.
The two countries I was most interested in were Canada and Trinidad & Tobago.
36. Canada
Medals: 18, Gold 3, Silver 9, Bronze 6

One medal for every: 1,845,150 people
11. Trinidad and Tobago
Medals: 2, Gold 0, Silver 2, Bronze 0

5. Australia
Medals: 46, Gold 14, Silver 15, Bronze 17

One medal for every: 447,839 people
4. Slovenia
Medals: 5, Gold 1, Silver 2, Bronze 2
Population: 2,007,711
One medal for every: 401,542 people
3. Iceland
Medals: 1, Gold 0, Silver 1, Bronze 0
Population: 304,367
One medal for every: 304,367 people
2. Jamaica
Medals: 11, Gold 6, Silver 3, Bronze 2

1. Bahamas

I've been following it a bit, and it's an interesting statistics, but doesn't hold much weight. Maybe it would be better if some kind of correlation could be made between Medals Per Capita and variety of sports the medals were won in - Jamaica, for example, won all their medals in sprint, while Australia won their medals in different disciplines. Stupid comparison, I know, but maybe you can see where I'm going.

Interesting.
Among "large" countries, Australia is the clear best in MPP.

yeah, i made that approach in another thread, to consider not only the total count or total gold, but make a comparisson of medals won per athletes per sport. so you can see how effective it was for countries.

Medals per person sucks, because many (if not all) events have caps on the number of participants from each country.
A better statistic would be medals per participant per country. I'm sure the US would among the top probably?

Pakistan was the most populous country not to win an Olympic medal (164 million residents, sixth-largest nation in the world).

That is an absolutely useless way to look at things. The limited number of events completely skews any of those statistics. Even if a country like china won every single gold medal available (I have no clue what this number is but lets pretend it's 200), they'd still probably only have one for every 6 million people in their country. That would still put them near the bottom of the pack. How does this assess anything useful?
