DRAFT DAY THREAD

Post#1 » by boogiesdad » Wed Jun 25, 2008 3:21 pm

Versus chilling at the Saucer and giving interviews, this year, I have decided to stay home and watch the Draft with some bros on the new Big Screen.

this is exactly the type of thing we should have done. But our cheap owner would never think of it.

Does this mean CDR could slip to us at #28 ??? Or will Orlando get him at #22 ???

What do you guys think about grabbing some of POR or SEA's picks in the 2nd round ??? No way either of these teams needs 5 or 6 picks.

Looks great boogiesdad. I don't think I'm going to attend any of the gatherings either - so I'll likely be here with you to commiserate in our failure or fortune tomorrow night.

Dude, I remember that as to this day I can see you looking dejected like a "Gloomy Gus", on lottery night as I felt the exact same way. The only thing that comes close to that feeling is when Magic Johnson announced his retirement because of the AIDS virus. Some will say they felt worse when the night the Tigers let it slip away but I am not a Tiger fan so I will have to take their word for it.
Memphis has really taking it's share in the last couple of years.

It has to get better?

If you're a lifelong Memphian, you generally come to realize that the worse is always yet to come. I can't explain it. I love the city and the surrounding area. I love the people. I love the diversity. I love the food - too much.

The best way I can describe Memphis is like a really, really great person with a serious drug addiction. No matter how much you love the person, it kills you to see them tear them self apart and unwilling to do anything about it.

this looks to be the most active draft day ever:

via YAHOO

Jun 25, 2008 5:52 PM EST
Jermaine O'Neal is very close to becoming the newest member of the Raptors as Indiana and Toronto have agreed in principle to a blockbuster trade, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports.

The Pacers will reportedly send O'Neal to the Raptors in exchange for T.J. Ford, Rasho Nesterovic and the 17th pick in Thursday night's draft.

The teams have been going back-and-forth with medical information on O'Neal's knee and Ford's neck all week.

Toronto will also send another role player to Indiana to match up with O’Neal’s salary.

i'll be at jason's deli with verno's crew.....if they have wireless there, maybe i'll stop in...

as of midnight, t minus 18 hours or so, i'm excited about Sam Amico's report that Mayo is going #2 and will be traded and that the Twolves will take and trade Beasley at #3.

you know, if these freaking teams don't want to draft high, why the hell did the lottery gods reward them the freaking spots.

Denver didn't sell it. They got a protected first from Charlotte.

The Toronto/Indiana complete deal is:

O'Neal, 41st pick
for
Ford, Nesterovic, Baston, 17th pick

From what I read the "protection" is along the same lines of the pick that Memphis sent to Washington in the deal that brought JCN here. Over time the pick, which remains incredibly well protected, will roll off and become a cash payout.

Essentially they bought the pick. But you are right in that, technically, they traded for it.

PLENTY OF SMOKE!

Okay, I will admit that its seven hours out and I am already nervous. You know when it is your first day of school as a little boy and you wear your new clothes to bed because you are so excited?

I keep hearing Chris Wallace mentioning the possibility of adding a veteran, but not one single name has been leaked. On the previous post Josh Howard was mentioned and while I would love to have him not necessarily at the cost of the #5 pick, especially since he disappears during the playoffs. We already employ one crunch time magician I really wouldn't want to trade for another. Although in this same vain we have been mentioned with Denver. Can we dare to dream that we could possibly land Melo as he is the only one aside from Kleiza that would make sense for the organization.

The Charlotte rumor makes a lot of sense as we would trade the #5 and maybe Lowry for #8 and #20 with Sean May being the sweetner. I can't believe I am doing this but, the NY Post said a deal was imminent. If the Grizz are targeting either Love or Eric Gordon, then it is possible than one of them would still be on the board at #8 and not be such a reach at #5. Getting Sean May included maybe wishful thinking but it is reported that he is available. Mar Gasol, and Sean May on the frontline would really clean the glass for the Grizz.

In the we didn't want your a&% anyway file, David Lee's representative have let Memphis brass know that he did not want to come to Memphis and would not sign an extension to stay in the summer if traded here so talks are now dead.

In the oh brother what does this mean. Michael Heisley is approving all decisions on draft day and is heavily involved in the decision making but not on the George Steinbrenner level.

I really don't know of the above mentioned items I should be most nervous about?

i think the charlotte rumor plus the josh howard rumor = gold...

maybe even enough wiggle room to get beasley if we get felton from charlotte and then give up conley....

at the very least, one of those 3 teams can be dealt with....i'd prefer beasley first, but if not, let's go get howard.....

Per RonRon,

Miami informed Memphis that it intends to keep the No. 2 pick, decreasing any chance that the Griz will move up and take Michael Beasley. Charlotte has relentlessly tried acquiring Memphis’ fifth pick. But the Griz rebuffed those offers because they don’t covet anyone on the Bobcats’ roster.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
