So no
Denver
GS
Bucks
Lakers
Raptors
Cavs
Spurs
Heat
Mavs
Celtics

no player seasons can be used for any of the above franchises

what about this one next?

Could be an interesting pool for 2000s to now

I’m more concerned about Cavs Lebron, though those teams have their warts too.

The 2009 Celtics recorded the best season start in franchise history, starting at 21–2, the longest winning streak in franchise history at 19 and the best season start in NBA history with 27–2. Long story short, they were a dominant team. Only reason they didn't win in 2009 is KG suffered a season-ending injury in February. Thing is, that's a non-factor for our draft cause he had already played more than half the games.

How about we expand the all-NBA 1st team restriction to include 2nd teamers as well? This way the big 3 core becomes ineligible cause both Ray and Pierce have made the all-NBA 2nd team.

I dunno. I suppose. It looked to me like KG wasn’t as good statistically that year. I feel like that could have unintended consequences and eliminate cores that aren’t OP. It also doesn’t eliminate the Cavs.

I’ve run out of steam for the moment. Only so much mental tinkering I can do on one idea at least for now. To me if it requires this many contrivances to mold a concept into something workable maybe the idea just doesn’t have a solid foundation.

Kill your darlings, as they say.

If someone else wants to pick up the ball go for it.

How about a fully loaded core game? Pick any four person core that played together two seasons even if they won a title. No other restrictions. If we went back to the eighties would there be enough for the bottom to compete with say 10 teams? They'd also get first shot at an unrestricted pool of additions. Should we be required to pick the core in round one to keep the best ones available?

If we want to continue with the current theme, Laimeer has an interesting idea in the discussion of the last draft. Pacific-Atlantic pairs draft. Doesn't have to be cross eras.

We can pair them by their division standings last season: Boston Kings, Philly Suns, Knicks Clippers, Nets Warriors, Raptors Lakers.

What about pairing contiguous states or cities within the same state?

BTW, my vote would be for a regular draft next. When we do pairs back-to-back we often end up with playoffs overlapping.

Agreed.

Plus we’ve done pairs/cores to death lately. I like them but probably time to do a few non-pair drafts for variety.

Why not just do the VC/Billups idea?

Only franchises they played for eligible to be drafted. They were both well traveled so it’s a solid but not exhaustive list.

That said there have been pairs drafts that sound interesting suggested. I’d favor waiting until the end of the season to revisit those ideas.

If we're not doing pairs or cores, looks like this is a good one.

Guys

What do you think about make a draft after end of regular season 23-24 ?

We had mid season draft yet so this would be great idea.

Yeah, that's 100 percent going to happen.

We do it every year.

Probably next since the regular season ends today

Oh and what a merciful end it is…

So glad it’ll be over 6 months before I need to watch a Piston game or read a Piston box score again.

One playoff series are all set, we can do a pairs draft of the round 1 series:

Boston (Miami/Bulls)
Knicks Philly
Bucks Indy
Cavs Orlando
Lakers Denver
OKC (Kings/Pels)
Minny Suns
Dallas Clippers

That’d be pretty deep. Probably best to keep it 99-00. No Spurs, Warriors, or probably Heat though. I guess the Heat might beat the Bulls without Jimmy. Seems unlikely.

I think that should be next anyway. Throwing out the R1 idea for next after.

Didn’t age so well.

There, now that I’ve gotten ahead of this one nobody else can say it.

Underestimated how lousy the Bulls could be.
