That's definitely a possibility, but I'd still prefer people with no horses in the race to rank the teams.

As far as the draft goes, what does everyone think of this idea?

That should offset (at least somewhat) the advantage of having a top pick. Thoughts?

Nah Gremz is just a weird dude. I thought about doing the Muppets for my mascot. But the Bunny in Donnie Darko is really, really fierce looking. I think the mascot will strike fear into the hearts of my opponents giving me an almost unfair advantage.

The Sixth Man, I really doubt you're going to get 30 active people to join this game. Highly unlikely. And also, your order makes little sense. How do only #30 and #1 pick first in every round??? I say make it 15 active GMs, and increase it to 15 rounds. Each person gets each pick (1-15) once and it works out perfectly. Here:

Round 1: 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-11-12-13-14-15
Round 2: 2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-11-12-13-14-15-1
Round 3: 3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-11-12-13-14-15-1-2

and so on, if you start round 4 with 4 and go on sequentially to 15 + the overlap of 1,2,3.... you'll be fine. Each person will get at least 1 1st overall pick, a 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th.

I agree with the trimming and that, but that's a recipe for a really stacked set of teams in the 1-5 range. I'd suggest something around 15 teams with starts like this:
1-2-3
15-14-13
7-8-9
10-11-12

Somehow mixing it up so that those top 5-7 picks that are getting the bonafide superstars (Wade, James, Bryant, Duncan, KG, CP3, maybe DHo) are your latest picks in the 2nd round and noth all that high in the third round either

We've currently got 14 teams...how about we go for 16, so that a playoff format is easier? Do most of you prefer that? I really like the idea of having 30 teams, but I suppose it may be too difficult.

But, bryant08, that draft order really isn't fair at all. Picks 3-6 would have a HUGE advantage over the last couple of picks. How about something simple like this?

Round 1: 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-11-12-13-14-15
Round 2: 15-14-13-12-11-10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1
Round 3: 15-14-13-12-11-10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1

Someone who posted 2 spots above me was onto something, but made a slight mistake. Because the NBA is a superstar league it is obv. most advantageous to get 1-3, so:

my thought is if you want 30 teams give it another day you have already got half in the first 24 hours so give it some time. Also I like the snake with rounds 2 and 3 being the same. The idea of this game is to put a team together. Look at the lakers just 2 years ago. Even with Kobe they weren't very good until they put a team together.

Just my 2 cents.

Great! We've now got 16 members. I'll start up the first round soon. But, first (and I'll ask this BEFORE the numbers have been assigned, for obvious reasons), does everyone think the current draft order is fair?

Here's my thinking on the number of teams. I honestly do believe that we could get 30 teams, with most of them being active, but the bigger issue is that it's nearly impossible to create a draft order that is fair for every position (beginning, middle, and end). With 16 picks, this will be much easier.
