2023-2024 mid season draft SF2 - flaco vs MadNESS (flaco advances)

Post#1 » by Dr Positivity » Tue Feb 27, 2024 9:27 pm

Here is a quick list of what you need in your writeup.

1. Specific years for each player on your team
2. Rotations and minutes for each player
3. Reasoning as to why your team will win and/or why people should vote for you.

Do not vote in this thread until both managers have submitted their writeups.

If writeups aren't posted within 24 hours, we will vote solely based on the players they have drafted (and any rotations they have posted on their roster page).

**First to 3 votes advances**

Write up:

Good luck flaco!

Think we match up pretty well here. We have KD to counter Butler, Wemby to counter Embiid, and Murray to counter Dame. We have advantages with Klay over KCP and Draymond over Batum.

My team fits together perfectly.
Shooting everywhere, good defense, we’re long and lanky, and can switch multiple defenders. Have guys who create their own shot and guys who know to how pass and make plays.

Murray can play off the ball with Draymond bringing up the rock. Meaning Klay, Murray and KD are all on the perimeter. Who’s stopping that? Butler can’t guard everyone!

Wemby with a real team would be ridiculous.
I chose KD over Embiid for a reason. In a 7 game series you want KD on your team. This is what helps us prevail.

Vote NESS!

Best of luck, Ness!

Image

Rotation
PG: Damian Lillard (38) / Jordan McLaughlin (10)
SG: Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (38) / Mikal Bridges (10)
SF: Jimmy Butler (20) / Mikal Bridges (28)
PF: Nicolas Batum (30) / Jimmy Butler (18)
C: Joel Embiid (38) / Dwight Powell (10)

Offense
The big 3 of Lillard-Butler-Embiid should complement each other well. I decided to bring Bridges off the bench to maximize his scoring output. He would have been a glorified 3+D glue guy playing 4th fiddle in my starting unit. KCP and Batum stretch the floor. Batum isn't getting any younger, but he's still effective on both ends of the floor. We know for a fact he has great synergy with Embiid being the starting PF for the Sixers this season. Btw, Embiid is having a monster season averaging 34.27 in PER which is an all-time NBA record way ahead of the competition.

Defense
Embiid drops, but stays close enough to Wemby to deny uncontested mid-range jumpers. Wouldn't worry too much about 3s/long 2s. Wemby is averaging 31.7% from 3 and 32.6% from long 2. Not to mention, the long 2 is hands down the least efficient shot in basketball. KCP/McLaughlin/occasionally Bridges are my POA defenders. McLaughlin averages a whopping +4.2 in DBPM this season. Wing D should be strong with loads of switchable (s)wings to throw at 35-year-old KD and 34-year-old Klay.

FGA
Joel Embiid 22.2
Jimmy Butler 13.4
Mikal Bridges 16.9
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope 7.9
Nicolas Batum 4.0
Dwight Powell 3.0
Damian Lillard 17.4
Jordan McLaughlin 3.0

Total: 87.8

Wemby is supremely talented, but he's nowhere near strong enough to counter Embiid. Not yet anyway.

I don't think MadNess matches up particularly well against flaco. Murray and Durant are not too good assignments on Dame and Butler - and as the top two scorers on Ness team, they are asked a lot here. I also don't think Wemby is good against Embiid, even though this is mitigated by the fact Draymond is also there and he's assigned to Batum.

I'm not sure Batum is starting level for these games at this point of his career, but Mikal is there as sixth man. On the other hand, Klay this season is borderline negative. He's nowhere near as valuable as his peak form, I'd prefer some undrafted players over him, e.g. Divincenco (off the top of my head).

Overall I have to go here with flaco.

I think Wemby gets eaten by Embiid and MadNESS bench is pretty rough with washed Lowry and the Vando SF minutes beside Biyombo, even if you consider flaco's real 6th man to be Batum or KCP that's still better. Vote flaco.

Given the way Thompson is playing this year and the poor matchup at center I have to go with FLACO
