the MMM-Kay draft

Draft rules:

1. Subject to the rules to be set out below, players from the 1959-60 to the 2022-23 seasons will be available to be drafted. You can draft players that came into the league before 1959, but the season you choose can't be before 1959-60.

2. You will be required to draft a total of 8 players. Each of your players must play a minimum of 8 minutes in your rotations.

3. Your team will be allowed a combined total of 88.0 FGA with a minimum of 3.0 FGA per player corresponding with the specific seasons indicated for each player. There is 0.85 FGA multiplier for pre-merger seasons used (1975-76 season and earlier), round to closest with 0.1 precision. NOTE: You may pick a player whose actual FGA number was lower than 3.0, but you still be charged 3.0 for that player.

4. You can only draft players whose seasons come from playing for a team that has an "M" or a "K" in their city or team name (predecesor franchises excluded unless this requirement is met)
Teams list
New York Knicks
Milwaukee Bucks
Atlanta Hawks
Miami Heat
Orlando Magic
Minnesota Timberwolves
Oklahoma City Thunder
LA LAkers
Sacramento Kings
Dallas Mavericks
Houston Rockets
Memphis Grizzlies

5. Each player you select must have played at least 50% of regular season games in the season selected and be in a season that they played for one of the above teams.

6. We will be doing a modified snake draft. It will go like this: ABBABABA

7. Players will get a maximum of a 2-hour window to make their selection when they are on the clock. If you still have not chosen a player by then, or if the player you have chosen is ineligible, you will be skipped. Also, if you know ahead of time that you won't be available to make your pick on the clock then please PM your selection to myself or another participant. NOTE: If you miss one pick and have failed to make it by the time your next pick comes around, you will be skipped.

8. The clock will be turned off between 12 midnight and 9 AM EDT.

9. Draft order will be completely randomized.

10. After you have made your draft selection, please quote and/or PM the person that goes after you so they will know that it is their turn and they are on the clock. You may not change your pick after it has been made, even if the next person in the order has not picked yet. Please note that the clock starts whenever the previous drafter has either made their pick or their two-hour window has expired, even if the next person is not quoted.

11. The winner of the draft will be determined by playoffs. 3 teams will advance automatically to second round, other 10 will compete at first round.

Team Roster Page Rules:

You will be responsible for creating a roster page for your fantasy team. Here are the things that you will be required to include on your roster page:

. Players
. Rotations
. Draft selections
. The most important of all, you must show the total FGA per player on your roster AND a total sum of each players FGA to display that it is under the required 88.0 FGA

-All of the above must be completed before playoffs begin.

Doesn't seem necessary with 12 franchises.

I'll take a wait-and-see approach with this one as well. The last few have been dragging on way too long.

It should be at least 70s to now and not 60s, to avoid Bob Pettit lol. Given Cincinnati Royals version of Oscar isn't eligible, I don't see any significant influence other than that, unless I'm missing something.

Personally I don't think the pool is overly deep to shorten the timeframe to something more tight.

Count me in, but this feels far too random.

We could have included ''L'' as well and called it the MLK draft in honor of Martin Luther King. I guess it would be a fitting idea for next January prior to the MLK day.

It becomes 21 franchises instead of 12

Right...but that isn't an issue.

These games have knobs which can be turned. The simplest is changing the amount of franchises and amount of years.
More Franchises? Less Years. Less Franchises? More Years.

Having 21 teams in a game isn't a problem--it just means you are using less years than you would a 12-team game.

Using 12 teams and 84 years, including the Lakers/Bucks/Knicks, does seem like it could use a change of years.

Alternatively, we could use only team names without city names (or vice versa). Plenty of ideas to choose from.

I’ll say this thread so far is a textbook example of why ideas should be pitched in the ideas thread first before just put out there without input from anyone.

This idea jumped ahead in line of a couple of ideas that already were being workshopped.

I think it would be a good idea to fire up the next one.

I’m sure LR will like this idea too. Plenty of Celtics.
