Billups Carter Draft - R2 - Larry_Russell vs Dr Positivity*

Post#1 » by durantbird » Tue May 7, 2024 10:36 am

Here is a quick list of what you need in your writeup.

1. Specific years for each player on your team
2. Rotations and minutes for each player
3. Reasoning as to why your team will win and/or why people should vote for you.

Do not vote in this thread until both managers have submitted their writeups. Please ensure you give a rationale for your vote; votes with no explanation will not be counted.

If writeups aren't posted within 24 hours, we will vote solely based on the players they have drafted (and any rotations they have posted on their roster page).

**First to 3 votes advances.**

c: Chris Andersen (2010-11) 3

87.3/88

Rotation
PG: Nash (38) / PatBev (10)
SG: Bell (38) / Pat Bev (10)
SF: Carter (39) / Hauser (10)
PF: Marion (39) / Hauser (9)
C: Gobert (38) / Andersen (10)

The Defense
Nash on Paul
Bell on Richmond
Carter on Tatum
Gobert on Amare
Marion on Horford

I feel like this is the best use of my team here defensively.

I know that Paul and Amare will be pick and roll hunting on Nash, best way for me to defend that is with one of the greatest bigman defenders of all time being in the action.
Nash will go over the screens, Gobert will drop.

Amares lack of Range will not drag Gobert out of the paint so he can be there to disrupt everything off that pick and roll combo. Even Richmond spent a good amount of time inside the paid with 33% of his shots coming from the midrange. This will muddy things up with Bell in there in his face and Gobert patrolling the paid.

Marion is going to defend Tatum here and just be in his face the entire game. Marion is perfectly built to defend Tatum and make him as inefficient as possible. Marion is a monster defender.

Going togo a little off center here, no pun intended, and Put Vince on Horford. This is peak, prime athletic vince who defended with 2.6 stocks per game average. Vince has everything needed to make this version of Horford be contested on his 33% of shots from three, and I know Horford will want to post him up, but I want that. I want Al Horford in the paint, with Amare, With Mitch in the midrange, with Bell, and more notable, Gobert in there with them. Those are not easy baskets for Horford.

Offense is great on my side with clear defined roles and one of the goat at making an offense hum.

a Nash, Vince, Marion and Bell break out and run speed type offense is ludicrous.
And having one of the greatest of all time at setting screens and having a standing reach of 7-9 for Nash to put the ball into his hands with spacing around them in a slower offense is nuts.
Also having all of Bell, Marion and Vince being capable secondary playmakers give me so many options.

Also have clear roles off the bench on my team with a rim runner in Andersen, A gaurd who defends, makes threes and can take it to the rim, and an elite knock down shooter of the pullup or off a screen or set.

PG: Chris Paul (2017: 12.9 FGA)
SG: Mitch Richmond (1998: 17.4 FGA)
SF: Jayson Tatum (2024: 19.3 FGA)
PF: Amare Stoudemire (2007: 12.9 FGA)
C: Al Horford (2018: 10.5 FGA)

PG/SG: Charlie Ward (2001: 6.1 FGA)
SF: James Posey (2008: 5.6 FGA)
C: Marcin Gortat (2010: 2.8 FGA = 3.0

87.7 / 88

PG: Chris Paul (38) / Charlie Ward (10)
SG: Mitch Richmond (36) / Charlie Ward (12)
SF: Jayson Tatum (22) / James Posey (26)
PF: Amare Stoudemire (32) / Jayson Tatum (16)
C: Al Horford (34) / Marcin Gortat (8) / Amare Stoudemire (6)

GL Larry

Defensive matchups: Paul on Nash, Richmond on Bell, Tatum on Vince, Horford on Marion, Amare on Gobert. We are pretty happy with our defensive matchups.

Both teams have a solid PG and SF combo of Paul and Tatum vs Nash and Vince, with Paul and Tatum both facing average defenders. However I feel the rest of our team is more skilled with an elite offensive PF in Amare who fits great with Paul and 98 Richmond is in his last prime season and averages 23pts and 4 ast and makes 3rd team All-NBA making him a pretty dangerous 3rd option on the perimeter. Horford guarded by Vince can give us some post scoring too while making our spacing dynamic. I'd give Ward and Posey the edge over Beverley and Hauser as 6th and 7th men, and I trust Tatum to run the offense without Paul than Vince doing it without Nash. Overall our offensive options are deeper with everyone in our starting lineup being a threat while he has some more limited players on that end like Bell and Gobert, and Marion having some halfcourt flaws.

Tough one to call here. Larry has more individual defenders who can be attacked, and I don't think Gobert dropping and relying on Nash to fight through screens will work out all that well. On the other hand, Amar'e plays a more important defensive role as a 4/5 so his limitations could be more damaging. Larry may have missed a trick by spending on the more expensive 2006 seasons of Marion and Nash as opposed to something like 2005 Nash and 2007 Marion, who I feel are essentially the same players. That extra 5+ FGAs could have allowed him to create some separation on Dr P, who is running out five All-Star/All-NBA offensive players with good fit. I also find a quality 3-and-D wing like Posey to be more valuable in this setting than a Hauser whose value is wholly tied to him hitting shots. This would probably go seven, but I'll side with the squad that has fewer defensive question marks and an elite offensive orchestrator in their own right.

I see too many mismatches for Larry here, and Dr P has a superb 5 all star caliber guys in his lineup, plus a reliable bench.

A bit more offensively cohesive and fewer defensive woes.
