Moose Players

Post#1 » by Parataxis » Fri Jun 3, 2011 3:44 pm

So there's been some talk of the Moose moving to St John's and becoming the AHL affiliate of the Winnipeg Whatevers. Presumably, when this happens, the Thrashers' old AHL team will become the Flames' affiliate.

Does anybody know what happens to all the players? Do both AHL teams get entirely new Rosters? (so that players linked to the NHL team stay linked)? Only two-way players? Something else?

Quite curious, as it seems a lot of unnessecary burocracy, moving rosters, rather than just having Calgary's affiliate move to St John's.

As I understand it all players owned by the WPG team will go from CHI to St Johns with the Moose and will join any players that the Moose signed to an AHL only contract. All VAN players that were on the Moose will be without a home until VAN can come to an agreement with another AHL club. This would most likely be CHI but they could split a team with another NHL team leaving CHI without a parent club.

They're all affiliated. Moose players play with whoever Vancouver's new affiliate is. Winnipeg's players will go to St. John's etc.

Whoever gets Chicago as an affiliate is going to be pissed because they don't develop. They just go out and sign as many older free agents as the AHL allows to try to win.
