And Javale's actually won 3 NBA Championships - twice with GSW and once with the Lakers.

McGee and Young have rings because they're lousy enough and undesirable enough that winning teams had the ability to pick them up off the scrap heap on minimum salary deals. Let's not act like their rings are somehow an indication that they are winning players.

Re: The Official Kyle Kuzma Thread
I wouldn't have targeted Kuzma. & we didn't target him.
But, we have him. He's not a terrific player, but there's definitely no reason to compare him to boneheads & proven lousy players! He's just had his best year yet as a pro. Given that he improved last year, let's imagine for a moment that he might improve again this year. & if he does, why then he's a respectable player, a solid journeyman.
I don't think more than that can be expected. But I also don't see why we should be dinging him so badly right now.

Breaking News: In a shocking development, Wizards owner Ted Leonsis has sold the NBA franchise to a consortium of participants in a discussion board devoted to the team on realgm.com. Details to follow....

They have rings because winning teams with winning coaches VALUED THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS. They brought particular skill sets and PROFESSIONALISM. They have both been in the league over 10 years and I’m tired of the hate.
Veterans like Stephen Curry and LeBron James don’t have these guys on the team if they don’t respect them. JaVale McGee actually started ahead of Dwight Howard. Gregg Popovich and Steve Kerr coaching the Olympic team and they are the ones who called for JaVale McGee.
Bye bye Beal.

Those are very good points, ccj. Say what you want about Nick and JaVale, but anytime players like Lebron and Steph and coaches like Pop and Kerr have you on their team and in their locker room it speaks well of your professionalism and who you are as a person.

Nick Young, sure, but Javale's absolutely a winning player. (It has, admittedly, been quite a journey). He's best utilized in a limited role, but can have a real impact all the same; the Nuggets didn't go and get him for no reason this past trade deadline, nor did CP3 recruit him to the Suns without cause after their playoff series.

Nick Young signed for the full MLE in 2017 with the Warriors. His salary was effectively more than that given that the Warriors were over luxury tax. He managed to play 17 minutes in a game 7 game against the Rockets for the Warriors. He found himself out of the league shortly thereafter though.
McGee did sign for little for the Warriors although he did sign an 8 million- 2 year deal with the Lakers and now signed a $5 million deal with the Suns, recruited by Chris Paul.

Even Young had his moment with the Clippers in a game 7 scoring 9 points down the stretch in a 1 point win back in 2012.

Kuzma can rehabilitate his image similarly to how amcGee has done so.

That doesn't change the fact that JaVale was asked to join the team when I am sure there are dozens of other NBA players who would have loved that opportunity.
Maybe it's time to show McGee a little love for a 13-year career, 3 NBA championships, a Olympic Gold Medal and apparently being a good person and teammate.

Re: The Official Kyle Kuzma Thread
Back to Kuzma - while it's obvious that he's nowhere near as good as Tatum - people are looking for the next Tatum - probably even moreso than they're looking for the next Kawhi - because a lot of players are physically somewhat similar to Tatum. And one of the players physically similar to Tatum is Kuzma. Unfortunately, Kuz is older and worse at everything. But a lot of GM's have that mindset that they're the one that can unlock the secrets of the basketball Gods to players like Kuz. And I think that's why - if he gets off to a good start, his trade value shoots up, and there might be a window where we can get significant value for him in a trade. But I could be wrong. Keeping him the entire season will almost certainly cut down on the minutes that our young forwards need to develop - which would be problematic.

I know these are defensive "highlights", but his D looks pretty good in these videos. If Kuzma can offer consistent D and shoot the 3 at last year's 36% or better, we have a pretty decent 3&D player in our hands.

Re: The Official Kyle Kuzma Thread
Looking at 3-men lineups stats for 2020-21, the combo of Kuzma-KCP-Harrell (250 minutes total) was pretty fine, particularly defensively. A ORTG of 106.8 and a DRTG of 101.3, for a Net rating of +5.5.
Let's hope these 3 bring some much needed defensive intensity to the Wiz!
