Someone asked in the off-season thread about a listing of all our picks given the numerous trades we have made. Realgm hasn't updated its future picks page, so here is a listing of all of our picks from what I can tell. Note, edited to reflect picks from the Rui trade.

NOTE: Edited again to reflect the Bagley trade:

It should. The realgm future picks page should have reflected that. I did glean some info from that page

I’m still confused. I think I need a spreadsheet showing what we have per year

Nate, you were right. Missed a pick from that Rui trade. In the Rui trade, we got the 2023 Bulls 2nd rounder (which we took Tristan V), swap rights for 2028 2nds between us and the LAL (which we traded away in the Bilal trade up), and LAL 2029 2nd. Will update the initial post. Thanks for catching that.

On draft night in 2020 we traded the #37 to OKC for the #53 & OKC's 2024 R2 pick.

I don't recollect our trading it away in the years since then. Am I wrong?

Man I can't tell. 2024 is a mess if you look here:

https://www.prosportstransactions.com/basketball/DraftTrades/Future/Wizards.htm

Ok: yes? I'll put it on the list.

Realgm would have had that. See https://basketball.realgm.com/nba/draft/future_drafts/detailed

It doesn't list us owning OKC's 2024 2nd. OKC's 2024 2nd is currently owned by Houston. We probably traded away that pick in the Dinwiddie trade perhaps?

For the 1st rnd picks, how does the swap and protections work with each other, and which takes precedence? For example, in 2024, it is protected top 12, and we have a chance to swap with the Suns. If the Suns get a top 12 pick, and we have a bottom 13 pick, will the pick go to NY or will we swap with the Suns?

I don't think NY gets swap rights with Phoenix this year. Our swap rights only trigger if we had a pick to trade. In the unlikely event that NY gets our pick this year, they don't get swap rights for Phoenix's pick.

I've been wondering this myself for a couple of days. I can see both sides, but I lean toward us keeping the pick in mhd's 2024 scenario. The expectation of the parties is that the picks would swap anytime WAS's pick was lower (meaning worse) than PHX's. So that would make WAS's pick top 12 since we swapped with PHX. The only argument I can think of on the other side is that maybe a swap isn't required. That is, If WAS had the 14 and PHX had the 11, WAS maybe isn't required to swap picks. So WAS's pick would be 14 and would thus convey to NY. NY could then decide whether to execute the swap (which they would). But I think it is somewhat sticky. Some of it may depend on when picks are supposed to swap. Does it happen automatically after the lottery, or does something need to happen later?

Any sense of whether this has come up before?

Whatever draft Cam Boozer and Cooper Flagg are in is the last one that the Wizards should be in the lottery for. No idea if that's 2025 or 2026.

Good lord, the confusion is ridiculous. If NBA.com can't clearly describe where each team stands then what use are they.

To add to the confusion, the suns traded the 2024 and 2030 pick swaps with the Wizards to the Grizzlies for three future 2nd round picks. So then I’m really confused…the Grizz would get the lesser of the Suns/Wizards picks. Someone has to explain that one to me, because I don’t understand why the Wizards wouldn’t give the suns back their SRPs for their FRPs outright. That’s essentially the same thing right?

Due to the Stepian rule, Phoenix must have a 1st rounder in 2024 and 2030. This trade doesn't affect us negatively. What happened is that Memphis basically got lesser swap rights than us with respect to Phoenix's 2024 & 2030 1st rounders. We get priority in swapping our 1st rounder with Phoenix if Phoenix's 1st ends up higher than ours (very unlikely in 2024). After that, then Memphis gets swap rights. So basically, say in 2024, hypothetically, we end up with the #1 pick, Phoenix gets #25, and Memphis gets #27. We aren't swapping for Phoenix, but Memphis would because their pick is lower than Phoenix's.

Or better yet, say in 2030, hypothetically, we end up with the #17 pick, Phoenix got the 6th pick, and Memphis had the 21th pick. Because we have first swap rights, we'd swap our pick (#17) with Phoenix (#6) and we'd end up with the #6 pick and Phoenix the #17th pick. Memphis would then exercise their swap rights and get the #17 pick and Phoenix ends up with the #21 pick.

Thanks MHD. All this info is super helpful. One more brain teasing scenario, though I think I know the answer. In 2030, if the GSW pick does convey to us and if PHO’s spot is better than ours, could we swap the Warrior’s pick for the Suns? Or is our swap right exclusive to our own pick?
