The Official Laron Profit Thread

Post#1 » by Scabs304 » Mon Aug 11, 2008 12:58 am

There will be a new thread wondering the where abouts of Laron Profit everyday until one does not get deleted or locked. I think China could of really used a Kobe stopper and since Laron won a title with Yi on his team (huge accomplishment) he should be aloud chinese citizenship.

Oh god, not again!

With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!

Profit was the best player Maryland ever had (that played an actual game in the NBA) when you take into account his offensive prowess in college and his defensive dominance.

There is no reason why this thread should be locked. Anyways I'm still wondering where Laron is playing. I don't have the link tothe site that you could find wherever a player is playing if they are playing in FIBA.

Laron from what I saw wasn't so much about stats and points, but what he did that didn't show up on the boxscore

I'd like to see him back in the NBA, he seemed like a decent role-player

Okay well Laron Profit won a championship in Argentina (that is a bunch of foreign country championships under his belt now). On that note once again he is MIA since it seems he no longer plays for the same team. Do not want to spend the money (34 cents a day) to try to track him on eurobasket though :(.

Doc could probably do this way more justice than I can, but The Official Laron Profit thread has a long and storied history on the Wizfans forum. Many long-time contributors to this forum have developed an emotional attachment to all that it has come to symbolize over the years. It began as one poster's earnest tribute to a player who he came to idolize with an unbridled (possibly homoerotic?) zeal. The thread was kept alive as an ironic homage to the ridiculous types of threads that pop up on every board hyping such-and-such mediocre player as the second coming of Air Jordan, which, in the Ron's case, he is (if only the league hadn't conspired against him all these years in an effort to promote "flashier" players like Lebron and Kobe, neither of whom can hold a candle to Laron, obvs)

In this context, would a Jaren Jackson thread make more sense?

Unfortunatly until we have the archives this Prophet of Profit has to make do with what we have. Anyways is it homerotic that Christians worship an almost naked Jesus on the cross? If so then I guess I have a slightly homoerotic infactuation with Le God.

The real reason why the Wizards haven't made it to the 2nd round since 2005.

Profit should be the player head coach then you would have real accountability from the bench.

Yeah, it sucks he didn't put it together in the NBA. I could see the raw talent he had and he seemed like a really good kid.

It's unfortunate how things work out for some players. Sometimes they just don't
get the chance they need early enough and then it never comes together because they get moved around.

Example. I think Blake could have been a consistent asset earlier if he stayed in one place and was
given the minutes to mature. But if your a later pick and behind a star, then you get in consistant minutes and then usually moved around.

Time passes as you wait for another chance. The margin for error is so small for these players. They have to be on when they finally get a chance. If they are off a few nights or sometimes even one night, your back to the bench. Years can go by before the right opportunity shows up were you get your chance.

Look at a player like Roger Mason. The opportunity was finally right were there were minutes for him to stay on the court and had a chance to get his game together. Now he is over the hump getting steady minutes so he can continue to develop a pro game.

Some people will say, they finally put it together. But the truth often is, he have would earlier if given steady minutes to mature. And for ever Blake or Mason there are a lot more Laron Profit's.

Hell, same kind of story for B Simmons and B Wallace

Higher picks are just going to get a longer rope. They are allowed to mess up while on the court so they can grow their game. It's a catch 22.

Laron would be 31 by now.
