Really our only big problem is we start AJ at PF.

Put Haywood at center with even Blatche and things change dramatically.
Now we will have McGee as a second option down there. This changes everything. We can protect the paint man up with 7 footers. This is more like what Cleveland throws at you. Even if we keep Etan and DSong, they are fine as filler to back up that core.

Add to that DMAC, NY, and Critter and you have at 6 defensive players.
3 post. 3 perimeter

with the right coach demanding he play some, Gilbert will be better. CB can be ok also. If DSleezy returns healthy he should be ok also.

We don't have a team of terrible defenders. We have a bad scheme and this year no true center and AJ at PF.

I concur, hands, except with Nick being a perimeter defender. He's not a good defender.

Not sure how far out on the perimeter we are talking about but how about this....

Stick this one in your back pocket and lets see if your right next year.

I'm not saying he can cover Chris Paul ( who can ) but with his height, athleticism and long arms, I think he is a good defender already and will be better once the system is addressed and players return.

We aren't likely to see much M James next year. DSong isn't going to be our starting center. And hopefully AJ isn't going to log nearly as many minutes at PF.

A perimeter defender should only have to guard the perimeter, not all the way down to the post. Your center and power forward should clean that mess up for you. A perimeter defender should be able to channel his opponent down the funnel if he gets beat.

When we are healthy and if we line them up right, we always have the post covered.
Haywood, McGee, Blatche, DSong and Etan, and maybe more.

You go one strong and one mobile to cover the weak side.

Strong are Haywood, Etan, DSong
Mobile are McGee and Blatche.

Haywood/Blatche
McGee/DSong or Etan

And if you really want to lock things up.

Haywood/McGee - not many are going into the post against those two.

Let's see how much stronger McGee comes back next year. I say he puts on around 10 lbs of strength lean muscle.

not really enthused by Saunders but of the options that have been floated in the Post he is the only one id actually like. ive been kinda hoping theyd go for TT, out of the box with the D/euro-league guys raised by doc and others or even laimbeer but i could deal with saunders. as long as its not sam mitchell, avery johnson, tapscott or wes jr.

If it were Wes Jr. I would slit my wrists... or at least stop letting my son wear his Wizards cap.

I can't buy that it would be Wes Jr.

1. EG is running the show, not LaSooz.
2. Why wait to name him? Name him now if he's the guy.

I think we should all stop with the Wes Jr stuff.

It's not going to be Wes Jr. It won't be Tapscott either. ;)

TSW swore me to secrecy but I can't keep it in any longer. Eddie Jordan is making an unprecedented return to the Washington Wizards next season.

Phew....glad that's off my chest.

The last 72 games of this season will be considered a "sabbatical."

Reminds me of Billy Martin with the Yankees.

When EJ got fired someone mentioned Bruce Pearl as a coaching possibility.

That rumor got squashed in the fall, but I wouldn't be surprised if he's in the mix after this season's over.

I think Tom T. has to be the prohibitive favorite. EG already tried to hire him once, before he was spooked off by the EJ/EG dynamic. I can see the front office feeding Ivan names like Saunders, Mitchell or Silas to throw folks off. I don't see Van Gundy or Avery Johnson having any shot at getting the job. Bruce Pearl might be a long shot candidate if Thibs doesn't want to come here.

TSW, do you have any insider info on this? Do you think they even know who's gonna be coach next year? Do they even know who they WANT to be coach next year?

They know who they're going to pursue.

well if it is Thibs (I hope I hope)

they probably are prohibited from any contacts as long as the C's season
is still in progress. So I hope we don't see any announcement until
after the Finals (since I'd rather BOS won the east again than CLE).

Is it Patrick Ewing...???

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/wizard ... gic_3.html

Van Gundy's assistant coach, Patrick Ewing, is quietly lobbying to return to the city where he had glory in college, rejoin forces with former New York Knicks boss Ernie Grunfeld and become the next coach of the Wizards.

How does Kevin know this stuff but Ivan Carter can't get us a scoop?

I don't think it'll be Ewing.
