I went through the box scores from last season's games against Atlanta... We played them 4 times, they indeed beat us all 4 times... but anyway, the scores;

@ ATL 87-91
vs ATL 98-102
@ ATL 90-112
vs ATL 89-98

Only 1 blowout, which surprised me, considering;

Most of their starters were still playing around 40 mpg against our weak, injured, no D playing team...
We were without Gil & Wood and we had a terrible "coach" in Tapscott for those 3 last games...

I'm pretty confident that we'll be going back home undefeated for our opener...

Should be a great game but I hope alot of people dont think we suck if we lose. Listening to Flip, he basicaly hinted that McGee could be used more in this game because of his athletic ability. I also wouldnt be shocked if he started Blatche this game but he will probably still go with Oberto but pull him early if the matchup is bad. The key matchup this game for me is Horford vs Wood. Wood has the big height & size advantage but Al has the quickness and likes to shoot the J's where Wood doesnt like to come out that far.

Someone on here talked about Smith not having to guard AJ but Smith is usually matched up on Butler and Williams is matched up on AJ. Butler also usually goes off against the Hawks so I would expect him to respond. Im also not 100% sold on Gil like everyone else is. By that I just mean that I dont want to put any undo pressure on him where people expect him to get 30 & 10 every game. I think he very well could but you cant say that after just 1 game yet. He's still been off for 2 years. Should be fun and I hope we show up. I would love to see more of the Gil-Foye backcourt and I would love to see Blatche & McGee on the court with Gil as much as possible.

Miller vs Johnson should also be fun although alot of the Hawks fans are saying they could switch Johnson onto Gil and let Bibby guard the 2. I would love that. Joe maybe good but he's still far too tall to guard Gil and I think Miller is too big for Bibby to stop

We haven't beaten ATL in the last 6 attempts. However, with Flip, I have more confidence in his ability to coach us to victory - this will be a coaching battle as much as anything else.

I was going to post the same exact thing; but then I realized Eddie Jordan is no longer the coach.

Not quite, but they do already have a fire EJ thread.

Wiz by 10. I think it is going to be a blow out most of the game, but our backups are going to let the Hawks get back in it.

The only reason I am going out on a limb and predicting an ass-beating is because everyone seems so insecure with our win against Dallas, and therefore, I'm going to go against the grain and give us hope of a big W.

So Wiz 110-100.

I can see this game going either way. The good news is that a 1-1 start on the road against above-average teams is a good start while a 2-0 start on the road against above-average teams is a superb start.

It'll be interesting to see what happens when Gil & others penetrate and dish to our bigs inside. This was fairly effective against Dallas, though it seems to me that a disproportionate share of our TO's happened on such plays. Will this tactic be more effective against the Hawks because their bigs aren't as tall as Dallas', or will it be less effective because the Hawks force more turnovers? I'm not saying the game will turn on this, but I think it could be an important factor.

Yeah, in their opening game thread, one of them said hopefully EJ is fired 5 games in. And the Philly papers are a lot harsher than DC.

Philly.Com has waned down in quality over the years. I liked the Princeton hire from the offensive perspective. But I was worried about the defense.

It's frustrating to hear him say "shut down the middle". When you got 3 guys Sam/M-16/Brand who are capable of doing precisely THAT.

What we've had trouble doing, for YEARS now is man--to-man defense. And pick and roll defense.

I have a mancrush on man-to-man defense as a want-to-be-coach. If you can't guard your man: GTFO.

Anyway. Looking forward to this game. Is Haywood and your guys okay? Because a healthy front-court trashes this Hawks team. Grab the rebounds and use your superior scoring ability.

With your depth, you should do what the Magic did twice: To us and to the Hawks.

Wiz: 110
Hawks:80.

Also, I expect to see Blatche to have another good game.

Another reason to love Flip: ""Tuesday's in the past," Blatche said. "Right after the game, Flip came up to me and said, ‘Last game don't mean s***,' excuse my French."

Blatche is going to keep his head in the right place with a coach like Flip, and hopefully will produce another good game tonight.
