I'm a little confused as to what amount of money the Nets ended up paying Eddie Gill, and how much of his contract counts against the cap, I think I summarized all of the data needed to calculate how much the Nets paid him below:
---
Season Began: October 31, 2007
Season Ends: April 16, 2008
Time between start of season and end of season: 170 days
Eddie Gill was signed to a non-guranteed contract: November 16, 2007
Eddie Gill was waived: December 17, 2007
Time between Gill being signed and then waived: 32 days
Time between start of season and Gill signing: 17 days
Total Salary Eddie Gill is due: $895,341
Total Salary the Nets must pay Gill: $770,610
---
Basically Gill was with the Nets for 32 days so to calculate how much the Nets paid him would I just do the following (?):
$770,610 / 170 days = $4,533
$4,533 x 32 days = $145,056
Hoopshype has Gill down as earning $208,912 so in NBA terms the number I calculated is only slightly different but I was just wondering how much Gill was paid and how I would calculate that number so I can add his contract to my salary thread on the Nets board.
edit:
Also how much of Gill's contract counts against the cap? The total salary, the veteran's minimum of $770,610, or just the amount he was paid (the pro-rated amount)?
edit2:
Which salary number is the correct one to use for Gill?
$826,046 or $895,341?

According to NBA.com he had 5 years of NBA experience prior to the Nets signing him this year.
Eddie Gill?

Assuming you've got the number of days right, then yeah, that's the formula. Don't know if they count days spent on waivers too. If they do, then add 2 days worth.
Hoopshype never, ever, EVER accredits teams for the correct amount when it comes to one year minimum salary deal rebate for old timer veteran things, such as what you've correctly given to Gill there. This is what they've done. They've prorated their own misinformation. Because they suck.
Whatever he got paid. Which, being an unguaranteed contract, would be the prorated amount that you listed.

Thanks Sham :O the reason why I actually went about collecting my own salaries for the Nets is because Hoopshype is so unreliable, I remember not too long ago (I didn't bother to check today when I looked up Gill's salary) they had their total salaries on the Nets page messed up -_-... It's not that hard to add up a column of numbers... Especially in Excel.

First of all, Gill was waived on Dec 12, not Dec 16.
http://www.nba.com/transactions/dec2007 ... tions.html
He therefore cleared waivers on Dec 14. Since he was paid up to and including Dec 14, he was paid for a total of 29 days. 29 x $4,533 = $131,457 goes against the Nets' cap.

I believe $895,341 is the correct number...since he has 5 years of NBA experience, this is his 6th season.

Whoops thanks for the correction, I just remember googling for "Eddie Gill Waived" and I guess the ESPN article was published on the 16th... I'm too lazy to check but either that was the case or I had a brain fart
