Howard Mass, how far down the list of priorities is fixing the search?
Are they even planning on getting it fixed?

Re: Searching is messed up..
We still haven't found a fix to the problem that was causing the boards to crash. We have reactivated the search a couple times since the original problem and every time the same issue would crop up after a couple weeks and the boards would go down. As soon as we figure out the cause and fix it, we'll reactivate the search and let everyone know.

The search function is really helpful. I am planning to bully the Bucks, but I need to be able to refind my own posts for this.

Double Helix wrote:I have to admit I'm a little surprised. I've been online since the sportstalk days and consider much of the conversations we've had over the years to be INVALUABLE. It will be a real tragedy if this archival information has somehow been lost, Howard, which is what I'm now beginning to fear might be the case. I understand the idea (in theory at least and from a financial perspective) that maintaining internet archives for more than half a decade might not be viable but if this is a situation where RealGM is trying to quantify its importance to the average user... Well, then I implore you to what you can to keep as many years worth of old posts available and searchable as you possibly can afford given your budget.
Howard, please don't let this relatively small thread in any way convince you that this isn't an important feature to the community. Many of the long-time posters (the ones that actually click on the ads on occasion) would be much more upset if they realized this feature wasn't coming back than they currently are. Everybody's pretty much given ownership the benefit of the doubt on this one even though it has been a couple months now.
The RealGM archives and the ease with which we used to be able to dig up old threads are HUGE parts of what's made RealGM as popular as it currently is on the internet. Don't kid yourself about new message board stylings, blog entries or wire taps. People come here to talk first and foremost so the very idea that all of those discussions die the minute they fall off the front page might be enough to dramatically reduce the user base.
Other sites with similar message board styles and software have maintained archives. I haven't posted on the Starwars.com message boards since the second prequel but I recently went back to log in and realized that I could still easily find my old posts.
I wrote this more than 6 months AGO! Come on guys. Put some effort into this. Please, take it seriously. Many of us have written essays essentially here. It really ruins a lot of the fun. We might as just be chatting at a bar with no type of ability to discuss past things and revisit past topics. The lack of a search function and the lack of the ability to find what past users have written makes everything temporary and meaningless.

Winterpeg, I might be able to take a look at it if you like and I can find some time, though I hadn't thought of just using google as was shown in the other thread (it's still not as conveniently organized as "Search user's posts")

I don't think the admins leave it like that on purpose. Maybe it can't be fixed?

hey can we sticky this thread?
lot of posters keep making threads about why the searching doesn't
it would help them and clear junk on this section

holy **** man...they must be lying about the problems with enabling the search because competent people would've solved this problem a year ago...They've disabled the search permanently because think they're afraid of posters finding other posters posts and attacking each other when they find something juicy.

Why ask a question for which you already know the answer...
It isn't going to be fixed, and perhaps you should accept that...

I would, but, given that we know it existed and therefore is accomplishable, it is UNACCEPTABLE that we neither have the facility nor a thorough, perhaps even technical, explanation.
