All posts made before 2008 were deleted, or perhaps archived. I'm assuming this was done to ease the database and speed up the forum.

All the old posts, all 15,000,000+ of them are backed up and and will be archived in a read only forum in the coming days.

None of your posts were lost, we simply needed to reduce the number of topics to help speed up the upgrade. Give us some time, we'll get all your old posts back to you.

That makes sense. I would love to know what was on the minds of esteemed Laker/Other fans back in the years of 2001-2004.

Will we be able to link to them in the original post that is saved?

For instance, this thread is linked here:

viewtopic.php?f=40&t=814294&p=16715202#p16715202

Will the original location be the same or would we have to search for them?

The most recent posts on the Giants board were about winning the Superbowl. While I'd love to go back to that time, a lot has happened in Giant land & all discussions about said happenings are now gone. :nonono:

Any word on when this may happen or if it will?

Is there any chance that some of the more active threads might get resurrected in an active format, not just 'read only'. The re-set killed all threads started before 2008, even if they were being actively used all year.

I find myself on the boards less and less often, now. And many of the oldheads don't bother to show up as much any more. Some part of that is natural board evolution, but the Wiz board seemed to be a surprising exception to boards I'd known in the past. Many longtimers still active in the conversation. Nostalgia is a great part of how teams build loyalty, shouldn't be surprising that the space to discuss teams follows Fan's general habits in this regard.

I had saved several threads that I resurrect time and again to get updates on and now that's not possible.

Why has fixing all of these things after the "upgrade" taken so long? Some of the problems were fixed right away and then nothing. This board is still riddled with problems, including this one.

Could a mod please address the old threads stuff. There were some really good topics in the NFL forum and others that I wanted to take a look at, will be be back?

Please please please let us know when we'll be able to read the old threads again. There's a thread from last offseason where one poster had to argue against about 30 other posters on the general board, and that one poster's argument turned out to be the truth in the 07-08 season. It's funny because all those people arguing against him wouldn't listen to what he was saying and thought he was crazy. I wanna read that thread again.

Also, i'd like to add:

That's a really good idea to mark the old threads as "reading only" material, instead of letting posters be able to post in them. It would suck to see someone bump a classic thread from like 2002 for no apparent reason, instead of just leaving it in the past. That's like me taking all of the classic Jaws movies and adding footage of me in the movie.

BUMP.

Summertime gets really boring and traffic drops off the map without the ability to pick old scabs and update long-running stories etc. There are about 5 steady posters on the Wziboard now -- whereas we used to be able to sustain a good argument for 20 to 90 pages before participants would get bored.

Now, no.

Any estimation on when this archive thing will go live?

Even before this most recent alteration we'd been told the long (100+ page) monsters would be able to be found 'some day'. Now though, we're hemorraging readership and its' really hard to sustain even my own interest, much less re-start a continuation of some of the more interesting threads from days past. Blogs have started to leach readers away (Wizards official site, Bulletsforever). I'd hate to see Realgm become a victim of its own success. It's gotten stale in our little corner of realgm. I landed here in the first place when the ESPN board underwent a format change and chased off a bunch of long-term authors. I'm starting not to care, again.
