Minor League Fantasy 2010-2011

Given the fact that this board has been in somewhat of a lull, I would like to reinstate the minor league fantasy competition that we created years back. How it works is that you are able to select some of your favorite college players who never made the pros, in order to compete in this fantasy league. They can be inactive for a decent span of time, however this fact may count against your team. As a general rule, you may not select players who are locked into a contract overseas as well, unless you can argue that they would come back to the states given this opportunity. Any minor league player is up for grabs, unless he is an NBA affiliated player.

How the competitive aspect of this will work is that we will select 16 players each, going round by round, posting positive and negative aspects of each of their games. From there, we will compete in head-to-head matchups where you have to argue for why your team is better, and how your team would exploit the matchup. Then we will vote on each game, until each of us has played one another.

A further consideration that I am having is whether or not to create a rule, whereby each team would only be allowed to select up to 5 players from a particular minor league. This would keep the game interesting, and we might see different matchups from simply D League teams that are currently in existence.

If anyone has any interest at all, post in this thread and you can create your own team name, logo, location, management appeal or draw for your specific selected area, marketing plans, etc.

This is an excellent opportunity to acclimate yourself with minor league basketball in general especially if you do not know much currently. I can provide you with a source list of different players from different teams, and where some former college players are playing. We can then have our minor league draft in say approximately a month or so given the level of interest.

Any questions you can post in here.

So, who is in?

It's no matter at all. I will help you through the process- I can provide minor league roster lists when they come out and player lists for selection if you need help. I believe that you were part of our inaugural competition. You can select any guys including your friend who plays for the Frost heaves and your brother etc. Also, you may have some other former division 2 guys in mind like a Jonte Flowers or John Smith depending on their availability.

That link only has guards, right? Also how do I know if a player has already been selected? Where do I post my roster? How many players do you select? Starting 5 or more?

You can click on the tab, and it will show you players from each position. Some players are listed at multiple positions. (assuming for marketing purposes)

Also, you are not limited to the guys on this list. It was just a suggestion.

I will be making a roster thread in the next day or so where we can post our rosters. We are going to be selecting 16, which we can alternate to suit our matchups. You will know if a player is already selected because we are going to hold it in a draft order which could take a little bit. So we are going to go through the five participants each once. I figure the most fair way to decide on the order will be the order in which you posted in this thread.

So, you will have the second pick. I am waiting on the two other participants to post that they are interested so we can develop an order/get a head count.

In the draft thread, I will be posting the roster rules. (so how many players, how many players under contract you can select (not strict) etc.

If you are definitely in, then that means that we currently have 4 participants, with two that are not confirmed additionally.

I will be updating everything once these two-three members post in here to determine the draft order.

Don't know if I'm gonna have enough knowledge of the Euro game but I'll give it a shot.

Yeah, it's mostly former college players so any knowledge of college basketball will probably be the most vital. (unless of course you follow minor leagues) Either way.

hopefully, yeah!

I have some guys in mind too, but I guess I'm going to be working off of what you guys are doing as well.

I was thinking that once we select 7 players, maybe we can post rosters of the remaining 9 guys we want to pick up. And then we can determine who gets who etc. for the remaining people because a 16 round draft is going to take forever.

Ok, I have posted the team thread, so whenever you want to post info about your team, you can go right ahead.

I am hoping to have everyone registered for the draft in the next few days. In the meantime, we can post our teams in the other announcement thread.

I'll give it a shot.

So a question though... If I draft a college player that never made the pro's, but entered the NBA draft in say some random year like 94, we're going on the assumption he's still in his prime right?

I wasn't thinking along those lines because then we could just say that Darius Miles is an NBA talent, and he would be ineligible. I think we are assuming the players either can make a comeback (which is feasible if they played a long time even for a random year like 94). Someone like Anthony Goldwire or Donyell Marshall would be nice pickups. (or even a no-name who had some career apart from the NBA)

As long as you can convince us, go right ahead.
