Rival Teams Think Sixers Could Trade For Jimmy Butler

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sun May 5, 2024 9:27 pm

Jimmy Butler reportedly wants an extension from the Miami Heat this offseason. Butler has two years remaining on his current deal, including a player option for 2025-26. It's unknown where the Heat stand on adding even more guaranteed money to their payroll moving forward. Butler will turn 35 years old ahead of next season and missed the Heat's first-round series loss to the Boston Celtics due to a knee injury.

If the Heat balk at extending Butler, rival teams believe the Philadelphia 76ers could attempt to swing a trade for the veteran wing. The Sixers project to have more than $60 million in cap space this summer. Daryl Morey will be seeking to fill out the roster around Joel Embiid and re-sign Tyrese Maxey.

Butler previously played for part of one season with the 76ers. Philadelphia acquired Butler from the Minnesota Timberwolves. Following the end of the 2018-19 season, Butler was acquired by the Heat in a sign-and-trade deal with the Sixers.

Philly can take him in to capspace and save the Heat owners a lot of money.

FRPs go to Miami

Can the Heat get under the cap enough to become players in FA though? If not I’d be surprised to see them make that move. Riley probably wants as many more seasons fielding at least a potential contender as he can?

Given the choice between PG13 & Paul George … would opt for PG13 instead.

Philly tried the Jimmy Butler experiment and parted ways.

PG13 would compliment the roster much better given his ability to handle the ball ( allows Maxey to play off ball ).

Interesting off season for the Sixers.

No FRP lol, more like 2 second round picks, a genuine pre moist pack of chewing gum and a free Philly cheese steak sandwich with the purchase of a drink and large fries. This is Morey we are talking about lol.

Butler wants a two year max extension on top of the two years he has left and he's about to be 35.

I got a 2nd rounder if everything else falls through.

Wtf is this, Morey's a fukin moron should've kept him while he was at his peak, now a few years later at the tail end of his career he wants to him back, loser mentality, just trade Embiid and start the rebuilding process

Elton Brand was the GM when the Sixers traded Butler. Morey came the following offseason.

I could see Pat trading Herro and draft picks for Donovan Mitchell if he doesn’t signed the extension this summer with the Cavs. Cavs don’t want to lose him for nothing. Mitchell and Bam would be the new duo in Miami

Does MIA have enough draft picks to make an appealing offer for Mitchell? Herro is not an asset at his $ imo.

Personally would like to see Butler and Embiid pair up again, it was a mistake to let Butler leave Philly in the first place. That being said I don't see it happening and I'm not sure its enough to get them to the finals anymore.

It would surprise me if he was back in PHI next season. They have nothing to trade.

It would surprise me if he retired with MIA. Riley rarely pays more than a player is worth. Jimmy will turn 35 in training camp, he doesn't put in maximum effort until the playoffs and always misses a quarter of the season. He can get more elsewhere. He will only retire in MIA if he takes a pay cut.

I don't know enough about Butler's tenure with Philly to say it's a bad move, but I can't imagine Riley trading him with the main asset being just cap relief. Another team would most likely need to be involved.
