Cavaliers Considering Dismissal Of J.B. Bickerstaff

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Thu May 16, 2024 2:32 am

The Cleveland Cavaliers are expected to take multiple days to make a final decision, but the job of J.B. Bickerstaff as head coach is in "serious jeopardy," sources tell The Athletic.

Bickerstaff has been head coach for five-and-a-half years after replacing John Beilein in 2020.

This means Bickerstaff has been written in the death note.

He’s done a great job, and Cleveland had their best year since Lebron.

Players always blame the coach (looking at you KD, Kyrie, Harden, etc.). When will they take responsibility and admit that maybe the problem is themselves?

“No one has told me I’m not (the coach), so I’ll keep showing up until they tell me not to,”

This sounds like a dead man walking. Nobody says something like this only to continue coaching the next season.

He apparently has three years left on his contract. The Cavs are about to be a mess if Mitchell leaves or Garland demands a trade. It’s probably best for him to get fired, take two years off and become a broadcaster, and then coach again after that.

The GM is mad that Bickerstaff played Mitchell too much. My ass he played him too much. Mitchell played 55 games and averaged 35mpg. It’s like GMs and players now are expected to just sit out the season, and then all of a sudden turn it up during the Playoffs.

JBB's offensive imagination is crap. They should have moved on from him after last season.

Yep. Plus, this is a non-cohesive team. The pieces don't match. 2 small guards who aren't great at playing off the ball. 2 big men who don't space the floor. A group of wings who do different things but none are great/consistent at what they specialise in (Strus-shooter, Okoro-defender, Levert-pure scorer).
Blaming Bickerstaff for this team not being a threat is dumb.

Exactly, he's an awful coach. I don't know what these other guys have been watching.

He has 3 years. Good for him. Donovan Mitchell is a quitter and bitch made. They lost to a team who just clocked their 70th win, and they're missing soft spida and Allen who's always hurt. Give them prime Popovich and they aren't beating Boston without 1/2 their starters.

The modern NBA has become a revolving door of Head Coaches and "star" players who have all the answers when they are the brunt of the problems.

More of the GM's fault. You have two guards who play the same, two bigs who can't stretch the floor and each should be playing Center and a SF in Okaro or whatever his name is who is just trash...Need to move one of the guards and one of the bigs and could have a really decent return.

I would be trying to trade Garland, Mobley and LeVert. And I would be doing this even if Mitchell leaves.

Garland because he's overpaid and under qualified.
Mobley because he is similar to Allen but will bring a much larger return, but trading Allen instead would be fine.
LeVert because he's trash, except when he's not, but mostly he is. He's unreliable in the extreme. Here's an excerpt from his game logs: 21, 2, 17, 6, 15, etc.
