This just straight up sucks.

I feel terrible because this is really damaging to the league.

A sign of light, they have negotiated down from 32 years old, with 10 years on the same team to 28 years old, with 8 years experience in the league.

I think if the Player Union can get it down to 26 years old, and 6 years they would take it.

I stayed up most the night following the up to date live thread on reddits MLS subreddit. Great place to keep up on the stuff up to the minute if any of you want to look it up.

Looks like talks are set to continue for today. They stayed up all night and no deal was made yet. Here's hoping today's the day, it could be the last chance if we want to see the season start in two days.

Another good sign is that Chicago is still flying to L.A. today.

It could also just be a 'better safe than sorry' case, but I'll take it as good news.

In off to work now, hoping for good news by the time I'm out.

No, they can continue to work on it without striking if they wish, but I doubt that happens. The league could also lock the players out if they feel it necessary.

I'm optimistic they will have a deal in place by tomorrow morning though.

Most important details of the new CBA

According to a source with direct knowledge of the deal, the new CBA is a five-year deal that creates free agency for players 28 years of age or older with at least eight years experience. According to that source, the free agency is capped depending on salary.

Players who are making under $100,000 have a cap of a 125-percent increase of their salary, players making between $100-200,000 have a cap of 120-percent and players making more than $200,000 have a cap of 115-percent.
lRelated MLS collective bargaining negotiations continue; Orlando City players hope to avoid strike

In addition, the new CBA includes a minimum salary of $60,000, though that number will increase incrementally per year. The source said there was also an increase in the overall salary cap, though the source could not immediately provide that number.

Excellent. Sounds like seven team's players voted against this. Among them, the players reps from RSL. (Rimando, Schuler, and Beltran)

MLS Power Rankings, Week 1: Who's on top to start the 20th season of MLS?

1) L.A. Galaxy

It's tradition to start the previous year's MLS Cup winner at No. 1 in the Power Rankings, but several members of the committee (including and especially the one writing this blurb) actually have LA outside the top five. They lost half their midfield, for God's sake.

2) New England Revolution

Deserve a top spot, and are probably one of the top three teams if you look at the course of the season. But for Week 1, with no Jermaine Jones and Andrew Farrell still learning a (crucial) new spot? The blurb-writer is getting antsy.

3) Seattle Sounders FC

Reconfigured half of the back line, and have no Ozzie Alonso to cover the entire midfield for at least a little bit. Like LA and New England, this team is built for the long haul, but don't expect the first several weeks of the season to be overly kind.

4) Columbus Crew SC

This is the team everybody should bet upon getting out of the gates quickly. They return the vast majority of their roster and made a clear upgrade at center forward with the addition of Kei Kamara. Continuity, talent, and a little bit more savvy... watch out for Columbus.

5) Vancouver Whitecaps FC

Watch out for Vancouver, too. The 'Caps were a goal-scorer away from being truly lethal last season, so they went out and spent on Rivero (who's generated lots of preseason buzz). That back line, however, needs to come together quickly.
