Nice to get what I would say a fair refereed match. It seems RSL has been on the unfortunated/stricter side of calls for many games this season.

Real Salt Lake: Reports say RSL sign Argentinean “Burrito” Martinez

Image
It appears Real Salt Lake has once again dipped into the deep Argentinean soccer pool.

A source confirmed to the Tribune on Monday evening that RSL and 29-year-old forward Juan Manuel Martinez have reached a verbal agreement on a contract three days before the secondary transfer window closes on Thursday, Aug. 6. Martinez spent the past three seasons at Boca Juniors, one of Argentina's most-storied clubs. Nicknamed "Burrito," Martinez scored 12 goals in 76 appearances with Boca Juniors.

An RSL team spokesman declined comment.

A forward-winger hybrid, Martinez is expected to round out the club's forward corps, primarily as a wide-attacking threat in the club's 4-3-3 formation.

According to reports from Mexico two weeks ago, Martinez was recently in advanced talks with Mexican club Cruz Azul after his contract at Boca Juniors — scheduled to expire in December — was terminated by the club. But the discussions with Cruz Azul broke off on July 21, according to a report from Mexican sports publication Récord.

In a report from ESPNFC.com on July 17, Martinez met with Boca Juniors coach Rodolfo Arruabarrena before the start of the season and Arruabarrena told Martinez the striker, who turns 30 in October, was not part of the long-term plans at Boca Juniors.

Martinez started his professional career in 2003, signing with Vélez Sársfield of the Argentine Primera Division. After 10 years there, he moved to Corinthians in Brazil for a season before joining Boca Juniors in the winter of 2013. It was reported Monday on ESPNFC.com that Martinez returned to Vélez to train with his old club to stay in shape as he figured out his next professional stop.

It appears to be with RSL.

Well we won tonight 2-0 but we need to get some road results if we want to make a move in the standings, next two games are at fc dallas and at houston, it's now or never RSL

Another two wins and they could leapfrog a bunch of teams and be back in the playoffs. Craziness.

just when i get excited about a Plata-Jaime-Burrito lineup, Sandoval starts scoring. Burrito showing us he deserves to be the highest paid player on our team in only 4 games.

Gil on the other hand....

Come join the dark side and cheer for TFC for the rest of the year. You wouldn't want some team from the West to win.

Im still hoping we can bring Yura Movsisyan back. He would probably ride the bench with Jaime and watch Devon Sandoval eat up useless minutes.

I think adding Movsisyan alone puts us back in the playoffs...barely. We need to strengthen out Defense a bit to put as back as an MLS elite team. I'm almost done convincing myself that we won't completely embarrass ourselves vs Tigres next month.

RSL lost their first preseason game today 1-0 against the Portland Timbers. The goal was scored like thirty seconds into the game, a scuffle broke out leading to Yura Movsisyan being sent off. Bad start to 2016 yo

RSL released the 2016 home jersey a couple of weeks ago. An all red shirt with a blue (fake) collar on red shorts. The shirt looks very clean, but the fact that they came out with red shirts and red shorts, we looked boring. We didn't look like the Claret and Cobalt that we are often referred to as. SI released this, thought

If this is for real, DAMN!

The blue shorts make all the difference. I LOVE the unis if this is real. Best looking kit in RSLs short history.
