NBADraft.net Agrees Pargo And Childress = Euro Busts

Post#1 » by KWSN-Men » Thu Apr 30, 2009 12:04 am

I see all over these forums where American NBA fans constantly argue and get ticked off at Euro fans when they point out that Jannero Pargo and Josh Childress are flops in the Euroleague. Many members here will argue that in fact they are "dominant Euroleague superstars".

Well, you can even read what NBADraft.net says about these "Euroleague superstars":

http://www.nbadraft.net/node/5467

Euroleague Final Four Preview

OLYMPIACOS

The idea of prying rotation NBA players through big contracts has been a hit and miss situation for Olympiacos. On one hand they have found themselves in the prestigious Final 4 and on the other hand their two studs, Josh Childress and Jannero Pargo (who joined later in the season) have struggled throughout the year (putting up much lower numbers than they did last season in the NBA). This goes to show that European basketball is a different type of beast and just because a player was effective in the NBA, it does not necessarily translate to the style found overseas.

Even with the limited contributions from Childress and Pargo
, Olympiacos is so deep that it had very little trouble overcoming. Losing only once in the round of 16 and then dismantling Real Madrid in 4 games in the Final 8. They have played fairly well all year, and if Childress can put it together at the end, they might have as good of a chance as anyone to take the crown.

Among the main contributors are Ioannis Bourousis, Lynn Greer, Nikola Vujcic, Yotam Halperin and Theodoros Papaloukas. An intriguing prospect is Georgios Printezis, who has averaged 9 points and 4 rebounds while shooting an extremely efficient 65% from 2FG and 50% from 3 PT. His rights are owned by the Toronto Raptors and this year’s play might have earned him a chance to take his game to the big leagues. Milos Teodosic is draft eligible this year, but even though he has gotten substantial amount of playing time, he has struggled shooting the ball and has not show much else other than being a spot up shooter (not a very good one at that).

that's extremely surprising, you know... that they are struggling on one of the best euroleague teams, because we all know how amazing pargo and childress were in the NBA.

And yet people around these forums are calling them things like "Euroleague superstars" and still claiming even some people that NCAA or D-League are better than the "scrub" Euroleague. Also extremely surprising.

If the Euroleague is so much better than the NCAA Then how come , The Majority of the first rounds pick are usually college players . The Majority of Euroleague players that are in NBA are role players Besides , Dirk , Ginoboli Gasol , Parker

You're probably the only who notices that. Is there a Euro-trashing subforum we don't know about?

Well, the Euroleague isn't an Under-21 competition.

This thread is ridiculous. Talkbasket is obsessed with how American NBA fans value Euroleague. Who cares?

Sure you aren't arguing with yourself here?

Perhaps the NBA GMs are no more aware of the Euro game than the typical American fan on realgm, the same ones bragging about guys like Milt Palacio and their 3 points average on 20% shooting in the second level playoffs as being "Euroleague superstars"............perhaps just maybe, there is a slight bit of arrogance and patriotism as in how Americans view the NBA, or as Europeans like to call it "the American League"?

You know, how US calls it "the World Championship" and in Europe it's either called, the "American Championship", the "North American Championship", or the ''NBA Championship". But hey, what are such minor details when a total scrub like Pargo in the Euroleague is called a Euroleague SUPERSTAR by Americans? Just more minor misunderstandings probably.

Perhaps there is a much greater base of college basketball players and teams

no actually we call it the nba championships too...

I'm not really sure what you're trying to say....if you're trying to argue that Euroleague > NBA then you're dead wrong. If you're trying to say that the average American hoops fan doesn't know much about euro basketball then sure...

^ +1. Its not really up for debate that the team that wins the nba finals is the best team in the world.
