Honestly, when we'd already given Melo the keys, it was pretty **** stupid to draft a dude that shot 21% on C&S threes and was a ball dominant guard that refused to pass to his teammates.

I gave it a B, believed in the talent, but it never made any sense with our roster.

I don't remember what I said after we picked him, but I do remember being happy we got him after he dropped a few spots below where he was projected to be picked. UCONN guards are usually pretty reliable too.

I can remember being burned after watching guys mocked high dropping and us landing them at our typical 11ish lottery pick. Vonleh, Monk and Bouknight. So I'm done being excited for lottery guys falling unless it's a NSJ situation where we get them at the end of the draft or second.

I remember at the time Charlotte drafted Bouknight thinking, "Who is this guy?" I saw his pre-draft workouts, watched all the pre-draft evaluations. And, then, after summer leagues, G-league and a few Hornets games, I still don't know who this guy is.

I’m pretty sure I gave it an A, he was good value at the time. No one knew he was a bum

Yep, I was excited and thought he would be great value! Ugh.

How many of us are analytical value shoppers? I know I research stuff, look for the highest value (combination of price and quality) in all sorts of things. It makes me a sucker for the falling knife scenario in drafts. I guess someone else in Hornet’s FO is too. Then again they have access to tons of info I don’t and STILL make bad choices.

I think Bouk wasn’t background checked well enough…or he went bonkers after getting money. His drinking and bad car behaviors were likely happening before they blossomed here.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Agree with the “A” grade after the draft, based on value. He has unfortunately ended up in the Vonleh class of failures.

My only concern is that he goes elsewhere and has a Monk-esque improvement with a change of scenery. It will be yet another draftee that we couldn’t develop, gave up on and finds his niche.

Concerning to me because his shooting in the season was not great att 29% from three on 5 attempts per game.

First post on Bouknight I made in this thread.

I just think that Bouknight is very similar to Rozier and Monk. I would rather just invest to keep one of them longterm and add a more versatile player who will be tougher to acquire.

Monk can probably be signed at 7-8 million per year. Bouknight if he is picked at 11 will make 3.5 million.

Advocated that he was not bringing a unique skillset.

The thing I notice with Bouknight fans is they talk about him as if he is going to hit his ceiling and be an athletic lead scorer at the 2 position. However, they hardly ever mention his floor could be a chucker offensive player that brings nothing on the defensive side of the ball who is sparkplug off the bench.

You can argue he is worth the risk if he pans out, but I think he is far from a sure thing.

Legit saw a chucker in the weeds.

just think his downsides haven't been talked about as much as other prospects is all I am saying.

Bouknight could be really good, but personally, I just don't see it with him. He lacks an elite skill to me, he is not as athletic as Lavine, hasn't shown to be an elite shooter, doesn't seem to bring much intensity to the defensive side of the ball. Not saying he is bad, but to me I would prefer a more versatile prospect at 11.

Just see a lot of ways he could fail in the league.

I would say a lot of ways he has failed. Bad attitude, off the court issues, poor shooting, lack of effort and focus on defense...

If we decline him and Kai 4th year options it opens up nearly 11 million in cap space next season.
Pretty obvious decision at this point.

I’d say the second one from the top is most Bouk. Not too muscular, not too aware, very much passed out.

Lol that isn't as good as whatever Kai has apparently.
