He's Marcus Haislip 2.0. Tall and athletic but he has no f*cking idea what he's doing on the court.

He would have failed anywhere because he's not a basketball player in any way. We fell for the sexy athleticism and height.

He just sucks at basketball unfortunately.

One of the rare draft 'W's' for me... I hated him before the draft, hated the pick during the draft (wanted Jackson), and I don't like him now. I really distaste Mitch's philosophy on drafting bodies and tools instead of skills. When he drafted skilled over athletic - LaMelo, Washington, Graham, Martin - it seems to pan out. Maybe Miller will too.
I don't support domestic violence. Thanks Miles

its feel for the game and intelligence that is vital to me. MJ and Lebron were ridiculous athletes but they also had the bball iq to go with it

I don't mind swinging for the fences every once in awhile on guys like Kai. Sometimes you luck into a Giannis and sometimes you get a Kai.

All of the archetypes have their hits and misses. it just didn't work out with Kai

how did we get here? what was the catalyst?
- was Kai annoyed we drafted Nnaji?
- did his agent tell him the Hornets were most likely declining his 4th yr option?
- was he told he will most likely be with the swarm all season?

Kai Jones publicly tweeting his own trade request just subjected himself to a fine (up to a maximum of $150,000) and/or a suspension, per CBA.

good point

Also the longer that tweet stays up the more apparent that Kai probably got dropped by his previous agency

like, seriously, who is his agent? who is advising kai, on anything?

2021 offseason list of transactions:

Drafted Bouk #11
Traded heavily protected 1st for #19 to draft Kai
Traded cap space and #57 for Mason Plumlee to be a starter for two years, and #37 to draft JT Thor
Let Monk walk for nothing
Cut Caleb Martin
S&T'ed Devonte' Graham in a deal that had like an 80% chance of only returning 2nds (though it did return a mid 1st that was used on Mark, so it's good to be lucky occasionally)
Signed Ish Smith to be the backup PG
Signed Kelly Oubre to be our 6th man
Extended Terry Rozier to 4/97M contract after gutting all the guard depth from the previous year so that Rozier and his agent knew they'd have tons and tons of leverage on an extension because we wouldn't be able to afford letting him walk.

And somehow the GM that performed this masterclass is still employed.

Somehow the Kai thing isn't even a top 3 blunder in that offseason.

Excellent synopsis of a tragic and idiotic part of Hornets history. These decisions blunted our progress and remain boat anchors today.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

You know it's bad when the best move was trading for Plumlee, and that was before he became Plumgoth.

One of the worst offseasons in team history. Drafted nuts, lost good players for nothing and besides Plumgoth, didn't get any difference makers.

Feels like using 20/20 hindsight to criticize negative developments, then dismissing as lucky positive developments

Also the negative hype for the Martin twins was pretty big here that season.

Mitch is the worst GM in the league.
