Gee, I wonder what we can do to fix this.

They currently have the 2nd worst record and the 3rd worst point differential. They're firmly in Wembyland

Indeed. It really is brutal that the NBA flattened the lottery odds...but big picture it's way more fair.

Can we lock Mitch and mj away in a closet during the 1st round and just let an intern make our lotto pick? Let Mitch out for the 2nd round. Keep mj locked up.

I can 100% see a world in which we traded a top 5 pick for a "win now" veteran.

Even though there is a generational talent at the top and a "in any other draft he'd be #1" at #2, I can't get excited over this draft.

I just assume that one way or another, we'll screw it up. Either by making a dumb pick, trading it because we have to "win now" or not even being in position to draft one of them because we'll claw our way into the 10th seed or whatever.

I hate the flattened odds honestly, but I already think there are two players besides Wemby/Scoot that would be really good for this team, so they basically have four chances to win. This is basically how I see it.

current odds
Wemby ~ 14%
Scoot ~ 13.4%
Whitmore/Black ~ 24.5%
top 6 guaranteed

odds if they finish 5th worst
Wemby ~ 11.5%
Scoot ~ 11.4%
Whitmore/Black ~ 22.2%

If they pick 4th they are guaranteed one of Whitmore or Black. Black also has a chance to go later than 4th, so even if they pick 5/6 they have a good shot at him. I have no idea what they'll actually do if they aren't picking top 2, but they solid odds to have a chance to get a good player even with just those four guys. They really need to make some trades to solidify their position at the bottom though.

If we have the worst record, there's like a 75% chance we won't get a top 2 pick and 50% chance we won't get a top 4 pick.

We have to get lucky no matter what if we want a top 2 pick.

I know that. Maybe I wasn't clear enough. That post and the one previously aren't related.

I think there is a good chance we screw it up regardless. Honestly, the only way I don't think we screw it up is if we end up getting a top 2 pick, because it's so obvious what to do that it's impossible to screw it up. But I highly doubt we get a top 2 pick because of the odds, and the fact we won't tank to at least marginally increase those odds.

Let's say we get 3rd. Am I excited for that? Not really. Picking 3rd would be disappointing when potentially 2 generation guys are just above us. Like the MKG draft all over again.
4th? 5th? Same thing. Also highly probable to be busts.
If we get lower, I think there is a legitimate chance we trade it. We literally just traded 13th this year because of "too many young players" and let's not forget we have Denver's pick this year too.

Maybe it's overly negative. But the way the previous year has gone, I think it's justified to be pretty skeptical.

I do think we at least look at moving whatever pick we get unless it's Wemby. Especially if Bridges is re-signed. They'll see this year as a one-off bad year, and look to bring in a star wing or center around LaMelo/Bridges/Rozier.

Maybe if we're fortunate, we have a new GM looking to make a splash

Has a team ever started 7-21 or worse and made the playoffs? Youd think at some point theyd have to accept it and pivot to building for next season, but I'm not sure the front office is living in the same reality as the rest of us. Like, Im pretty confident that Rozier is the main guy they should trade, but I'm also pretty confident hes probably the second least likely player theyd trade behind LaMelo.

The consistency is actually pretty surprising for two such high-variance shooters.

over these 9 games:

Kelly: 25.2ppg on 53.9 TS% (20.8 FGA, 5.9 FTA). Has stayed between 20 and 29 points in every single game.

Terry: 24.9ppg on 52.5 TS% (21.8 FGA, 4.4 FTA). Has stayed between 22 and 29 points in every single game.

I was more surprised that Kemba + Al didn't do it during Al's All-NBA season.

With how much K/T have been shooting, they should score 20+ even if they aren't efficient.

If you take 20 shots a game, you better **** score 20 points.

Hornets have lost 9 games where they led in 4th quarter or OT.

Hero ball and zero defense + rainman at the helm

Wow and hasn't it really impacted winning! Congratulations chuckers!

They are great tank commanders but I'm sure we can trade them both for other (worse) tank commanders and get some picks.
