If we draft him we should erect a statue of him.

I'm not judging. We definitely have a hole Dick can fill. No denying that.

Spoiler:
We need to talk about Terry

Consensus rallying cry on this board is, Terry must go

His contract, relative to his projectable role, is the problem.

$23k this year
$25k next year
$26k '2025-26: $24,924,126 guaranteed, fully guaranteed if CHA plays in 2nd round of playoffs AND Rozier plays 70 games in any of the 2022-23, 2023-24, 2024-25 (He played 63 games in '22-'23)

He has more value as a veteran leader to the Hornets than to other teams. Many on the board are calling for adding veteran leadership, but it seems clear that Hornet management sees Terry as the teams's veteran leader, and that was one reason for his contract. Another reason is that they paid him as a starter.

Because he is more valuable to the Hornets than to other teams, he is difficult to trade. In other words, other teams will see his contract relative to the role he will fill for them as an overpay.

For the Hornets going forward, he remains valuable as veteran leadership, but if his starter role changes to a bench role, his contract is an overpay.

Terry as backup SG is more palatable. His 3 pt shooting avg tumbled to 32% last season on Hornets decreased offensive efficiency, but his above average career 3 pt shooting, 5 assist per game (compare Kelly Oubre's 1 apg), and veteran leadership make him worthwhile as a bench SG. But if he's a bench player his contract isn't so pretty (esp with the team needing to re-sign Miles, PJ, etc)

That being said, Terry Rozier starting at SG and playing starters minutes is the most likely route to the playoffs this year. And I fully expect Coach Clifford to play Rozier starters minutes.

If a trade could be had, I would be all for it. But you look around the league for a trade and salary matching is an issue. The Chris Paul ship sailed. Diop's idea to swap him for Kyle Lowry is a great idea, but MIA needs to include Lowry in any POR trade. Another deal some have mentioned, Doug McDermott+Devontae Graham, isn't great because Graham has been terrible.

Long story short, I don't think Rozier is going anywhere. Best case scenario for this season is Clifford doesn't over-rely on Rozier the way he did last year with Plumlee, and with more options around him Rozier's 3 pt efficiency returns to previous highs.

For better or worse, looks like Terry Rozier is the Hornets veteran leader.

I too expect rozier to be here and start, as long as he plays purely shooting guard I expect his numbers to go back to the norm.

Scary Terry at media day, showing off his new grill

Prompt: a colorful comic book style artwork of Frankenstein, with tattoos on his arms and a diamond grill on his teeth, wearing a purple jersey with teal pinstripes with the word "SCARY" on the front. He is playing basketball.

Terry's generally been good at staying healthy so that doesn't bother me.

Melo better stick to braces though.

One thing you have to give Terry credit for is his durability. Also, he's looking pretty locked in and like he'll be able to drift back into a more supporting role/scorer which he is WAY better at than what he's been the last season or so.

There was like 50 guys in the league to average 15+ points and 4+ assists last year.
Terry was at 21/5

He can be ball stopper at times, but overall, his playmaking is probably underrated tbh.

Yeah agree, Gordon Hayward is also in that 4 assist range. If we had a decent coach he would have those guys in the game when we are trying to get through the backup pg minutes.

Also we can't let Terry go without getting another proven guard back. Our guards we can count on are LaMelo and Rozier and that is it. Hayward is more of a SF at this point and Brandon Miller is also. Nick Smith, hopefully he is good, but he can't be counted on to take Rozier's minutes.

I think I'd be equally disappointed if Terry and Hayward were on this team next season as I would be with Mitch and Cliff. I'll roll the dice on just about any other "vet presence" at this point
