Does Gobert lack killer instinct?

Post#1 » by EmpireFalls » Tue May 7, 2024 12:45 am

Missing a crucial playoff game vs. the defending champs because of the birth of his child. Apparently weather is a factor too for why he can’t get a flight back to Denver.

The Wolves have already stolen game 1, and could put a stake through the Nuggets here with a second road win. Does missing this game signify a lack of killer instinct on Gilbert’s part? Think of the all-time-greats, the champions, the killers in history. Would they miss a crucial playoff game over a child birth?

I never really pictured Gobert as a killer instinct sort of player. That’s not his role.

As a Wolves fan, I don’t blame him at all. I wouldn’t have missed the birth of my children for anything. Congrats, Rudy.

Experiencing the birth of your child is more important than any basketball game. Gobert will be retired from basketball in a few years... but he'll be father the rest of his life.

It's pretty much a situation of his family vs. his job. He picked his family. Nothing wrong with that.

With that said, even without this, I've never seen him as someone who had "killer instinct".

Kobe would have planned the pregnancy better so that he doesn't have to miss the game

Kobe would muse-caged his unborn child in utero until they were mentally strong enough to postpone their own birth until the playoffs were over.
When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?

Please advise….

Have a look at this for example:

Guess what Dad was doing on November 18th, 1988? No time for Jeffrey. Had to play ball.

As a father, birth of your child always takes precedence. Horrible timing, but atleast the TWolves stole home court. Onto game 3…

That's nice and all, but doesn't really constitute MJ for having "killer instinct". If he decided to miss a game to see his first childborn, he'd still be considered as someone who had killer instinct.

I'm going to assume you're young, and aren't even close to having a child yet. But a lot of people, athletes included, prioritize their family over their job. And it's really not that hard of a decision to make, playoffs or not.

To be clear, the child was born early this morning. He could have played without missing the birth.

I don't get why people mention Kobe? Kind of obviously made questionable decisions as a parent considering...

This.

Minny already stole 1 game. 1-1 split minimum. Back to Minny with HCA,
2-0 would be icing on the cake.

TWolves are a deep team as well, bench.
