That's how Embiid gets some of his calls. Defenders barely touch him, but that's technically a foul. People need to keep that same energy.

The two are not remotely close. You will never admit that but it's true.

Embiid just throws himself into defenders and flings the ball in the air with no intention of making the shot. Anyone who’s ever played basketball knows these are not legitimate shots. He’s playing for the whistle 100%.

It’s not comparable to Brunson pulling up for a floater with a defender trailing him. Yes he’s seeking out contact, but these are shots he’s very capable of making.

Surprised to see Giannis on this list, I never saw him as a foul baiter. He just bulldozes to the rim strong and whoever is in his way is in his way. He doesn't go out of his way to change direction away from the rim to purposely make contact with someone. He just goes ultra hard to the rim and DGAF if there's contact.

change the rules appropriately. foul baiting is an offensive foul with the whole "space" rationale being a poor excuse

I have never seen a guy hurt another player like that, not get ejected, and then go on to get 20 free throws. This is like some god mode cheat code stuff. They legit had to get Adam Silver in the building in the next game to show the refs who was boss, and Embiid still ended up ramming his elbow into Brunson’s face.

I can’t lie - I WANT Jalen Brunson to get that treatment. Hell, I want that type of power in 2K.

also turner literally set a moving screen on that play

was it an intentional screen? no, but that’s smart on brunson — forcing turner to set a screen without even wanting tio

Yeah many of the charges Jalen draws are definitely a lot more dubious  But on the offensive end, he's getting whacked & grabbed constantly.

How can you stop Brunson's foul baiting and flopping?

I really like Brunson but this playoffs I have seen him repeatedly foul baiting and flopping which has lower his respect for me. How can you stop Brunson's foul baiting and flopping so that he can go back to be a genuine good player liked by all?

You can’t. He has the combo of harden and trae young level grifting. He uses every trick in the book.
It’s freaking gross.

You’ll never be close to winning a championship if you have him as your #1 option

I said this in my board... knicks are my 2nd team this season. Before we even thought of sniffing the Po, i already decided to follow them in their PO quest... but maaaaaan... Brunson is nearing Kyle Lowry levels of flopping.

The arm flail into the opposing defender's established area is the most annoying trick, and it's not something you see called much anymore, outside of by the new Knick Bavettas. He got it from Harden & Kawhi, but for the former it's a big reason why he experiences diminishing returns in the playoffs. I don't think JB would get it on any other team but the Knicks & Lakers.

Any good/great guard under 6-3 without crazy athleticism is going to be something of a foul baiter/grifter.

Pretty much, him and Mitchel have mastered the "get the guy on your hip" and dudes just can't guard it given the current rule set of the NBA which demands shooters have space. Why they are are both going for 40 so much, they are elite shooters, so you can't guard them in space 1v1 until their is a rule change or teams learn to defend it. There isnt going to be a change so teams just need to play smarter and try new things

We saw IND do a better job tonight and the results were clear. With no OG attacking off the dribble and one less shooter in the game, Pacers were able to guard his shooting hand, collapse on his drives, and then rotate out quick to Donte and Hart. Not sure if that defense would work in a 5 out or with OG, but it mitigated Jalens ability to break his man down off the dribble tonight. Pacers rotations were absolutely incredible in this game, so with no 2ndary scorer, Brunson was just on an island

Expect to see more of it in the coming games, and Brunson needs to adjust. Quick actions with the ball starting in Harts hands would be my guess, but we'll see.
