Who will be the #1 pick of the 2024 NBA draft?

Post#1 » by JustBuzzin » Sun May 12, 2024 4:29 am

This might be the least hyped draft in quite some time. Doesn't really seem like there is a clear cut #1 prospect this season. So from what you have watched so far who do you think will be the #1 pick?

Risacher lack of ball handling will probably be enough to keep teams from drafting him #1 imo.

Sarr played in the NBL and I thought LaMelo looked more talented when he was here but obviously has time to develop

Sarr for the team who needs rebounding and defense, Topic for playmaking, Risacher for shooting.

Sarr seems like the most commonly mentioned name going #1 but it probably depends on the team. Sarr isn’t a lock to be a great player by any means he’s just a pretty good prospect in a draft that tops out at that level.

I feel like there is one overlooked future all-star in this draft: Tidjane Salaun.

He's raw (who's not at 18) but fundamentally sound, and already great athletically. Less "freak" but more skilled version of Giannis who is proving himself in a pro league albeit not a great one. I wouldn't be surprised if he becomes the best player out of this class, or just be a scrub who averages 7.5 minutes per game as a rookie before returning to Cholet.

Whoever it is, it looks like a really bad year to have the #1 pick, or just a top 10 pick generally.

If Cooper Flagg was allowed to be in this draft, would he go number 1 at 17 years old?

So "a scrub who averages 7.5 minutes per game as a rookie before returning to Cholet"

Joking aside, we often underestimate the stats of young players who are playing in pro leagues in Europe. Most of these leagues are full of very good and now experienced D1 players, and y'all now how it differs even from freshman to senior seasons in college ball. Let's say he's playing against good D1 seniors with lots of experience. We're calling him raw based on his output but how many candidates from NCAA can do that as a 18 years old?

100%. Flagg seems like a no-brainer.
As for those saying Topic, I think that's a stretch to have him go first. Risacher seems probable just off of his potential, but I agree that he hasn't shown too much ability to create his own shot. Still could end up similar to Miles Bridges long term, therefore, he'd be a valuable part of a team's core.
So many people who attain the heights of power in this culture—celebrities, for instance—have to make a show of false humility and modesty, as if they got as far as they did by accident and not by ego or ambition.

Easily. No question. And that #1 overall pick would have tremendous value as a result.

The first few picks are going to be massively overpaid for their likely production. I don’t see anyone that’s *likely* to step on the floor and be a positive contributor as a rookie. Some will, of course, but I don’t think teams are at all sure who it will be.

Most years, you’d never trade #1 overall for say #5, #10, and #20. This year I probably would. It’s that hazy.

Oh, and my guess at #1 is Sarr, who is far from a sure thing to be a good offensive player.
