KG hands down. People need to slow down some. As already said by dozens of people, KG is an incredible defensive great. He gave you 10-14 rebounds per game like he was punching the clock. He had nowhere near the supporting cast Edwards does.

I'm still baffled where this narrative came from that KG was NOT the driving force and best player on his championship squad.

So many different posters ironically post stuff like this to “Real” GM. And most people aren’t even reading the question.

At the time of the draft, the selection has to be made on the knowledge available at the time, and not how Garnett, or (Ant thus far), turned out for their whole career. While 19 year old Garnett wouldn’t be penalized in 2020 for skipping college, there would still be concerns about his character because of the high school lynching charge that dropped him to the #5 pick. Ant at the time of the draft, Ant had not dispelled the “does he really care about basketball?” questions, and his lack of developed skills. Both were exceptional athletes, and I think in 2020, you’d go with then 6-11 kid.

Certainly KG can have a good argument, but lol at the lol - Ant man at 22 has played 19 playoff games, 7 of which had higher scoring than KG's career high.

Most points scored by player in wolves playoff game

1. Anthony Edwards - 44, 05/12/2024
2. Anthony Edwards - 43, 05/04/2024
3. Anthony Edwards - 41, 04/19/2023
4. Anthony Edwards - 40, 04/28/2024
5. Sam Cassell - 40, 05/04/2004
6. Sam Cassell - 40, 04/18/2004
7. Troy Hudson - 37, 04/22/2003
8. Anthony Edwards - 36, 04/26/2024
9. Anthony Edwards - 36, 04/21/2023
10. Anthony Edwards - 36, 04/16/2022
11. Kevin Garnett - 35, 04/22/2003

KG's primary value is his defense.

That would be like comparing Kobe to Duncan and saying Kobe is better cause he scores more.

Except Kobe is also an elite defender so your comparison is not really apples to apples

I think a lot of people who are saying he’s a #2 a really forgetting how KG was in his prime.

Not sure I follow why this makes sense as a criterion. Volume alone doesn't mean anything. But hypothetically, let's say Edwards scoring more matters. What of Garnett's defense and rebounding?

Put a team around him as good as the one Ant has right now and see if that changes though, you know what I mean? Old-ass Latrell Sprewell (who couldn't score well to save his life) and only-time-All-Star Sam Cassell were enough to get them into the WCFs and they only lost due to health issues, so is this really an argument? Where is his version of Gobert, KAT and Naz Reid?

Then that turns into a discussion, instead of lol. Wemby was loled a lot before the season, just saying

To be sure, "lol'g" at either of these guys is a little odd. I can get it a little when you're lol'g at the newer guy, given KG's body of achievement, but that's obviously not quite fair given the difference in time spent playing the game. KG spent some time growing into his level of play and all that himself, after all, for sure.

I think you could make a case for either guy. Knowing what we do already about KG, his jumper and passing and defense all make him a very compelling case for a complete player who would contribute quite a lot. Ant needs to put it together in the RS a little more going forward, but he's obviously been doing wonderful things as a scorer in the playoffs, so the potential is surely there.

Always tough comparing an established guy and a younger player.

Twolves eliminating Nuggets made to WCF again after 20 years, on the day of KG's birthday...

Except KG was not as good as Duncan and defense just does not carry the same weight as offense in current nba. Rudy Gobert, this season's DPoY and 4x total, can become unplayable depending on matchups.

Edwards is certainly just not scoring more, he is scroing 29.8ppg on 51/40/83 shooting or .633TS% over 19 career playoff games, with 24.8PER and 8.5BPM. In addition, his defense 1.5s/1.3b as a guard is elite.

KG is a lot closer to Duncan than Edwards is to Kobe as of right now.

Edwards is gonna to show a lot more to be in this comparison. Great playoffs so far albeit in a small sample size I will give you that.

Edwards in game 7 6-24 fg 7a 16pts
Kobe in game 7 6-24 fg 2a 23pts

They are really close :D

Draymond's 11-15 fg 15r 9a 32pts could not save it :noway: .

Not if you also remove Edwards in turn. KG spent a career playing third fiddle to Timmy and Dirk and only got his name taken from the Barkley tier to a higher one due to the Chips in Boston when he played a much smaller role.

Bad example to compare Kobe to Curry in games "7"

Kobe 44min 22.2pts .389/.370/.673 8.0r 5.0a +2.83
Curry 41min 32.6pts .467/.424/.920 6.4r 7.0a +11.0
