I'll criticise them for using a 2nd, too

Bronny is SO far from being a draft worthy talent at this point.

Not possible to do in modern basketball. Just no way to keep up even with great assistant coaches.

do they really tho? the lakers will always be a destination, they don’t need to hitch their wagon to a clearly diminished lebron who can no longer be the best player on a championship team

Lakers FO and the Buss family don't elicit much confidence, Lebron got them a ring(and AD) and has been covering up a lot of the warts last few years.

And why are you discussing a fantasy scenario like that which has a 0% chance of happening?

I don't think it's that big of a deal....it's not much different than the Bucks keeping Thanasis on the roster to keep Giannis happy.

Ideally you draft him mid-late in the 2nd round....I can understand 1st round pick being a waste but a 2nd rounder is fine.

It's not a big deal if it keeps him happy but man, I can't imagine how awkward that locker room potentially will be if/when Bronny has a bad stretch and Lebron pressures the coach to keep playing him while taking away the potential minutes of other guys.

Add Reddick as head coach. Take Bronny in first round. Dream off season for non-Laker fans.

Eh 2nd round picks don't usually pan out. If in this case that's the cost of signing a Bron it's not much at all.

They win a championship like every decade or sometimes multiple championships in every decade. They will get it right again.

Wait a minute... If the Lakers have access to their first round pick, there is no guarantee that some front office might not take flyer on a generational physical talent like Bronny. He's got his dad's genes. Bronny might not be there for the taking.

Shams said the Lakers could use a 2nd on Bronny to keep LBJ happy. They are likely trading their FRP for veteran help assuming the Pels defer to '25 for that pick. Cavs did same thing a few years ago when they drafted Evan Mobley's brother in the 2nd round. It's not that big a deal. Lebron's decision likely hangs on bigger issues such as draft trades and their head coaching search.

Pelicans own the Lakers 1st round pick. If they defer to 2025, the Lakers can use it. I think they have to use it on Bronny. If they don't have the pick, then Bronny could be gone. It sounds crazy, but the reality is that this is a very weak draft. Why not take Bronny?

Bingo! Exactly what is going to happen if Pelicans defer the pick.

Lakers don't care what anybody thinks and will use it to draft Bronny 100%

This is the weakest draft and Lakers would like to give Bronny a nice decent guaranteed salary for 4 yrs with that pick
Bronny will become Murray 2.0

I'm not. I was talking about them using their late 2nd, which is possible.

can you blame them? They'll get their 3rd star to form a Big Three and they don't need stars so using a draft pick on a role player isn't out of left field. He'll contribute. I'm half-convinced he tanked his draft stock to make it easier for the Lakers to draft him

Because even in this "really weak draft" Bronny is straight up awful compared to guys who would flame out of the league and be called total scrubs by realgm. Posters who don't actually follow NCAA ball or lower levels don't seem to grasp that Bronny legit just isn't any good at all. Not like "oh he's not nearly the prospect his dad was", it's like "he's not even close to a professional caliber basketball player at this point in time in ANY LEAGUE WORLD WIDE". There's 100+ guys at small and mid major colleges who are levels above Bronny as a player that will never even sniff the NBA. Bronny is much closer to a fringe power 5 player than he is to fringe NBA guy, especially since he has had access to premier NBA caliber trainers, resources, strength and conditioning, etc since birth.
