I don't think it's a fair comment...

Vince Carter is clearly an All-Star caliber player... I mean, he IS tossing 21/5/5 on like 46% shooting, and he is theoretically a threat for 40 on any given night if he chooses to play intelligently or if his shot is on.

Vince is a star-quality player, he's simply not a superstar, as someone else said.

Kidd is the one that is done, Vince is way better than him but everyone loves Kidd so they just scapegoat everything on Vince. Vince is the least selfish player on the Nets.

there is still a love-hate relationship between VC and raps fan but thats another issue.. i think it's not only raptors fans, but most NBA fans misses the half man half amazing VC, every top 10 plays of the week you saw him atleast twice on the countdown, but not anymore...it's either he is declining or he needs to go to a team where he can be the number one option again...

VC not playing like an All Star is a good sign for a fellow atlantic division rival like Toronto so right now most Raps fans would probably say they don't miss that Vince Carter haha!

Only an idiot would think Carter isn't a star anymore. He's putting up the EXACT same stats he always has but is taking 4 less FGA a game... as a result his PPG is down.

This game against Golden State is making Magic look like an idiot. Even Reggie was saying that the Nets need to start going to Carter more often because he is among the elite scorers in the league.

VC is easily the best Net this year. It's ridiculous that he's getting criticized to this extent.

That was just ridiculous. Nobody in the league today can dunk with that kind of explosiveness, elevation and power. Only Nique could come close to that kind of dunk back in the day.

I didnt need Magic to tell me this. Just watch the games. Its common sense. But I guess common sense isn't so common anymore.

he's obviously still an all-star caliber player..LOL@ Michael Redd being better than him, what a joke..

Carter lacks heart, and everybody knows that..he uses about 75% of his talent IMO, and he doesn't have the killer instinct to take over games..he just doesn't seem like he gives a ****..

with that being said, he's still a good player..he's one of the best passers at the SG position in the NBA..very good team player..and he can still come out with some big games..

Vince Carter gets hated on too much, and gets a bad rap though..nobody can deny that there is a double standard towards Vince Carter..I guess it's because everyone just expects so much out of him..

he also gets minimal respect from the refs, which is annoying to watch..because then people assume that he just doesn't drive or score in the paint, when he actually does..

Honestly if you put Manu Ginobili's heart and desire on VC's body he could be the best swing player in the NBA.

QFT. His lack of heart has made him underrated. He's still extremely talented, even without his athletecism, he's still has his skills like ball-handling and court vision.

Is this supposed to be surprising though?

Mostly all freakishly athletic superstars will eventually hit the decline and won't be how they were when they were in their prime. I think that was what Magic was talking about: Carter's loss of athleticism.

Even if Carter's athleticism declined, he can still be a great player. It's all about hustle, heart and determination. He still has the size and length to be effective... and he can be good fundamentally as well. Vince just has to have that fire in him to keep him going at a high level. Before, it was just him dunking on people to give him momentum to make crazy shots. Now, he won't be able to jump over 7 footers any more but he still has other skills in his arsenal that can be used.

And Magic's "Theory" about losing athleticism means you're a "regular" player just doesn't make sense.

Athleticism isn't Vince's problem. It's his heart I guess.

What Magic said can only be applied to someone like Jason Richardson. Jason Richardson's game relied on complete athleticism. Without his hops, Jason wouldn't have any ballhandling ability, shooting ability, etc. to rely on if he can't dunk over someone and catch alley-oops to score.

With Vince, even without his old athleticism, he still has the mold and skillset of someone who can put up at least 25ppg, especially being on a team that has Jason Kidd as their point guard.

yup..agree with Cupcake..watch Carter play..his athleticism has nothing to do with why he's "declining"..he's still a solid shooter, and a very smart player on the court..

ask Nets fans..he's too passive sometimes..Jefferson on the other hand, shoots every chance he gets..

Wasn't it on Arena's blog where he mentioned he saw Vince a few weeks before training camp and VC told him he didn't workout ONCE that entire summer?

If VC had half the work ethic of a Kobe, you'd be looking at possibly the greatest player of all time. He's that talented.

Had Vince Carter played 100% night in and out, he'd be right up there with Kobe Bryant. Maybe even better. IMO.
