+1
That was the point from the beginning. $20M/yr was not for current value. It was to bring a championship to Miami as well as value accrued during his prime.
Riley respects the big guy (as well as most veteran players) and so that is the reward.

they got what they paid for..a championship..now he can sit back and collect retirement for the next two years while still being on their payroll. Anyway the way the heat are going they might pick up one of the top three picks in beasley, mayo or rose. They can then rebuild from then on, get rid of shaqs contract hopefully in the future and make another run. OR continue to be irrelevant like they were pre shaq and wade

Would his contract be voided? Would his family/next-of-kin be paid in full? Partially? Would the salary figure still count against the cap?
Not saying I want Shaq dead or anything.
Two years from the last game he played. Bobby Phills was on the Hornets cap well after his passing. Malik Sealy happened to be an expiring contract when he passed.

Money aside, how many teams would still love to have Shaq at center for them next year? The guy is 36 and going thru a divorce, next year should be better. I would not blame all of the Heat's problems on him because losing six guys from last years roster that averaged over 20 minutes a game has had the biggest effect on team effectiveness.
