What a waste of resources. Just give him a game ball (not from a night Giannis scores 60) signed by Hali, suspend Bev five games and move on.

Are we 100% certain Pat didn't just catch the second half of Cancun? Is it possible he missed the Can?

Didn't the police look into Ant throwing the chair last year, too?

Should be fine IMO.

Players today are just so reactive to fan heckling. Back in the day that fan woulda just been ignored.

Waste of resources? A fan got blindsided by a basketball thrown by an athlete into the stands, purposely.

Do we not investigate people who commit assault, or is that just for the "common folk"?

Or is it just that it was a basketball, and not say a chair, or something else?

I just don't think it's worth the resources. It was a dickish thing to do do but could easily be settled as a civil matter. Unless someone actually got hurt (they I will backtrack but both seemed to laugh off the stupid of Bev) it seems like a waste to get police involved to spend probably thousands of tax payers dollars following up on this.

i've seen both intended targets and by standers get hit with balls during pick up game arguments. Stuff happens like this all the time for "common folk". You basically would have to arrest someone at the local YMCA every day. Like do you think the cops normally investigate an argument that doesn't result in sustained injuries for an argument at local basketball games?

Well this is just plain untrue. Players have been getting into it with fans since the beginning. It's a byproduct of basketball seating being so intimate to the floor. It's the only sport where there's no barrier and the fans feel like a part of the court. Barkley got into it verbally with fans all the time. Rodman repeatedly went after people not a part of the game. Magic and Larry evidently thought screwing with fans in each other's houses was half the fun of playing on the road.

Reggie Miller had a decade long ON COURT feud with Spike Lee.

It's never, ever right to get physical in any way with a fan unless they outright attack you, but don't act like previous eras were above giving in to the fans heckling. They weren't.

It's assault, plain and simple. And there's no mistake that it happened. No one thinks he should do time for this, but he should be investigated, charged, and arrested.

It's great that you don't want fans kicked out, though some probably deserve it, but if the alternative is this behaviour, you're better off getting fans kicked out.

The thing is that us "common folk" don't take kindly to having a ball thrown intentionally at someone we care about. If Bev had done that in a YMCA he better have his boys with him because ish is about to go down.

But Bev did it in a public venue, to a fan who paid for that seat, in front of TV cameras and an international audience, while security are present to make sure that Bev doesn't get the smacking he richly deserves. The only way to get back at Bev is through the legal system.

You're acting like people walk away from stuff like this when that's not reality.

Why do they need an investigation. They know he did it. Arrest him or not.

Also, what's the deal with these players and their dumbass cryptic "what he said was bad, I'm not going to repeat it, but it was bad" statements. Either say what they said or shut the **** up.

Pat Bev: "I'm not gonna get no fans kicked out if they say something excessive because I'm not about that."

Also Pat Bev: "But I will throw the ball in their face if they say something excessive."

Although he doesn't say the latter statement, he makes way too many excuses for what he did that it pretty much legitimizes such a statement.

If a fan is saying something that crosses the line and then you don't get get them kicked out but then you get so upset that you hit them in the face with the ball, that's on you. You should have gotten them kicked out.

Can't tell if Bev is blowing smoke or if the fans really did cross some serious lines.

Remember the time Kyrie Irving got hit with a water bottle from some guy in the stands? I remember it, and the outrage and the "players are treated like animals at a zoo" comment from Irving.

Apparently, he got arrested, charged, and arraigned (though for the life of me I can't find out if there was a conviction or plea deal or whatever). Why is this case any different? Was Beverley treating these people like animals at a zoo?

It seems that if a fan said something really out of line, that would have been the first thing out of Pat Bev's mouth after the incident. So if something is said now I don't believe him, just trying to cover his @ss.

I guess we'll see what the investigation uncovers. Might be alien involvement.

This investigation is triggered by the fan pressing charges, which is a legal precursor to a lawsuit.
