Los Angeles Lakers center Andrew Bynum has a torn right MCL and will be sidelined eight to 12 weeks, the team announced Monday.

Bynum was hurt in the first quarter of Saturday night's win at Memphis. Kobe Bryant drove to the basket, missed the shot and crashed into Bynum's right leg. Bynum immediately grabbed his knee.

Bynum averages 14.0 points and 8.2 rebounds.

He missed the final 46 games of last season with a left knee injury, and the Lakers lost in the NBA finals.

Hopefully it's not a bad diagnosis like last year

Actually that is pretty bad. He'll most likely be out until the playoffs start, and even then he won't be anywhere near the same player he was these past 5 games, if he returns.

Sucks for the league, especially if he's not back for the playoffs. Even if he comes back, he probably won't be close to where he was the last 5 games.

Lol nvm my bad... I looked on ESPN once he said it and it didn't come up.. Then i went back a minute ago and it was there..

This sucks for the Lakers though. He's pretty much done for the regular season, and it wouldn't be the smartest thing to bring him back for playoffs if his knee isn't 100%, which I'm sure it won't be after being out 2-3 months.

Middle of April.

So best case scenario, he's back two weeks before the playoffs start.

Worst case, he's back after the first round.

Double worst case, he misses them completely. Remember, Andrew was only expected to miss eight weeks last year and he never made it back at all.

Not a lot of silver lining here if you're a Laker fan (and I am).

So he messed up his knee most likely for the whole season against the Grizz again? Thats pretty ironic.

Just wanna let everyone know I was the first one to report this, back on page 19 about 2 hours ago - 2 hours even before ESPN knew. I can't reveal my source but maybe now everyone will stop crying for a link when I report breaking news. Peace.

This is pretty unfortunate though. As a CLE fan I have to admit I liked watching Bynum play..he is one of the more skilled big men in the league (there aren't many of them left)

All we can do is pray that he hits that 8 week mark... Hopefully that last handful of games will be enough for him to return to form... And we can hope that Lamar steps up as well

What's Chris Wallace up to?

Maybe he can trade 'em Gay and Mayo for Odom?
