He has an east coast playground game IMO where "old man" moves and physicality are built into his package. That's why he is 6'0" and you can routinely see him posting people up. Defenders will need to study his game. The fact that he doesn't have a high release on his jump shot (lack of vertical explosion) should be used against him.

His footwork and touch are just insane...but ol' bighead is also a brick f***ing house. Dude has a hockey player's frame.

There really isn't.

Brunson is much stronger and has a habit of posting up opposing guards. His in-between game is much more refined. His game relies a lot on his footwork, unlike Trae.

And while he does occasionally stop on a dime to draw fouls, it is still legal by the new rules. But he doesn't hunt fouls nearly as much as Trae Young does (or used to).

The comparison is lazy. And perhaps a bit salty.

It's rare to see someone built like him make it to the NBA. What are the chances of a normal sized NBA guard having a son shorter than him who turns out to be much better? If you were his father, Rick Brunson, you were possibly hoping for that growth spurt that never came. Jalen doesn't need it. Recently people have been talking about the small guard being taken out of the game moving forward. Jalen isn't concerned...

It's because he's left handed combined with his ability to play off two feet. It's the same thing as in boxing, soccer and baseball, the best left handed people are more used to going against right handed people than vice versa. The different orientation of everything he does throws defenders off. All of those post fades and pivots wouldn't work as well if he were a righty at his size, that split second difference where the defender has to think about which direction he may fade to helps him.

Yeah Jalen has learned to embellish to make sure he gets calls and teams can't just grab / bump / whack him on every possession...though they certainly still try lol. But he doesn't move out of his way to generate calls that wouldn't otherwise be there the way trae did. Brunson just slows down & braces for the contact from behind when he feels a guy coming up on him.

And what's a little guy supposed to do in that situation if he doesn't have the lift to go up strong? Just let bigger players jump all over him to block his shots from behind? Wait for them to get in front of him so he has to beat them off the dribble again?

Brunson getting recognized is good for the game. How many non-athletically elite 10-15 year olds will be out there working on body control and footwork thanks to big body Brunson?
I'm ready for a wave of next gen Brunsons.

Oh his skill level is just insane, being strong as s*** alone at that size wouldn't make him an NBA player. But it definitely does help his skill shine through in the paint.

Yeah he's strong, but he doesn't allow that to prevent him from accentuating any contact he receives. His head flails with the best of them.

Imagine he had a healthy 2nd option to help him?

To me he is the third best player in the NBA - Luka and Embiid are comfortably ahead of him.

lol yeah, Jalen has had to learn how to make sure he gets calls. But there are still so many more fouls that could be called on defenders when they're trying to deal with Brunson...especially all of the grabbing & pushing before he even gets the ball.

Pretty sure he's ranked one in drives per game in the playoffs but sure.

Yeah, he doesn't receive every call yet. Harden definitely received a more favorable whistle during his best seasons.

His style of play is very surgical. Obviously if you’ve made it to the NBA you’re an elite basketball talent, but the way he plays you can tell the amount of repetition he’s put in off the court is so high. The fakes, footwork, shooting form, etc always look pristine. He also has a lot of poise and while he does show emotion, he never gets too low or too high.

It took a crazy stretch of playoff games for people to even acknowledge that he's *maybe* top 10-15. Even tho he showed he's easily already in that conversation leading the knicks to the 2 seed with several serious injuries on the roster. The foul baiting criticism is so lazy considering how much else he does on offense. He was still 1st or 2nd in playoff scoring without FTs going into game 1 against Indiana. And shocker his 4th quarter explosion in game 1 included several made *shots*.
