Here's who I got representing the conference finals. This is not a prelude to what our NBA Finals will be, keep that in mind:
- Celtics: 17 championships, looking to break the tie with Lakers and reclaim supremacy and CBA control
- Nuggets: Most recent NBA champion who just won their first last year, looking to repeat (Game 7 today)
- Mavericks: Previous champion from more than 10 years ago
- Pacers: Never won a title before (Game 7 in progress)
I can't see Knicks making it. With Thibodeau, you're guaranteed a working overload. But also look at this: his lone title with the Celtics had three superstars, Allen, Pierce and Garnett. On Bulls and Knicks, it was usually either a one-man band with Rose (Rose became superstar by default with his MVP award in 2011) or role stars with Randle (3x All Star) and Brunson. If Thibs wants a deep run again, he'll need a True Big 3.
As for Wolves, they're brand new but also fragile. Edwards has stepped up into his leadership/future role-star period with superstar status just around the corner. But Gobert has never gotten past the 2nd round, Conley is compromised by injuries, Anthony-Towns is afraid, and the Wolves blew their only chance at an automatic 3-0 lead which resulted in Nuggets taking over. They did redeem themselves by enforcing a Game 7 but it's all over. Wolves need to make some changes, and maybe having a better Dynamic Duo will work.
