Mitchell Robinson Out For Regular Season (Update: Out again 6-8 weeks with ankle injury)

Post#1 » by Capn'O » Thu Dec 21, 2023 11:17 pm

Big blow for the Knicks as he was looking like a potential all defensive team candidate. Great news for iHart fantasy owners though. He's been playing great in Mitch's absence so far.

https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/mitchell-robinson-injury-knicks-center-out-for-season-new-york-applies-for-7-8m-exception-per-report/

When the New York Knicks first announced that 7-foot big man Mitchell Robinson would require ankle surgery, his initial recovery timeline was estimated at 8-10 weeks. Eight weeks at the low end would put him at an evaluation in February, with a chance to return for a playoff push around March.

Now, The Athletic's Shams Charania is reporting that the Knicks have applied for a $7.8 million Disabled Player Exception as Robinson is now being deemed done for the season. The original estimation was already a massive blow for the Knicks, but at least they could've gotten Robinson back at some point. Now, that will likely not be the case.

Yikes! I need to check highlights for his injury.

That's a huge loss for the Knicks. Sorry NY fans.

Dwight Howard as a backup? Trade? What's next for them. Article says Andre Drummond which works too but may have to send a 2nd or cash?

Robinson wasn't a difference maker? He's the second biggest reason the Knicks beat the Cavaliers last year...

Time to unleash Hartenstein!! Defensively not as good but he’s a much better scorer and a great passer for a big man.

This really sucks. Robinson was having a dominant season. A total monster on the offensive glass.

He's plateaued as a player, continues to show zero development. The Knicks can easily fill the void he leaves, they might lose a little bit defensively but they gain enough offensively that his absence doesn't hurt them.

He is actually very capable of being a much bigger lob threat but Brunson and Randle are so iso heavy they don't really look for him. If we had an elite passer, Mitch would prob average alot more points. He def can''t create shots tho.
But you cant sit here and tell me that he hasn't developed under Thibs. His problem use to be that he can't stay on the court because of foul trouble. But now he shows discipline and is one of the best offensive rebounders in the league. Checking stats online won't show you the impact that he has on the team defensively

But I always said that he will be ideal as a back up center. Knicks need a stretch big. our team is so iso heavy and that would open up the floor alot. So this injury may be a blessing in disguise for us. We really need to make a move for a stretch 5

iHart has opened up a lot for Randle so far. It's a different look but working. We're woefully thin up front though.

Poeltl can be had too. He's leading the league in FG% so we only want 6 1st round picks. We'll settle for 5 if you act now lol.

We'll miss Mitch, but iHart has given us a different flavor with his ability to stretch the floor. Randle is absolutely feasting and bulldozing his way into the paint now. I think we'll be ok, but should sign another big as insurance.

Terrible news for the Knicks. That sucks. Get well, Robinson!!

In the meantime, the Pelicans needs to trade Zion to the Knicks for Randle ASAP!!
