Did anyone really think the Mavs were gonna get THIS Kyrie? Makes you wonder what his strange, sulky, one-way self has been doing the last few years before this one…

Kyrie was always this good. Folks let a few comments and a stint in Boston cloud their judgement about him. The guy went toe to toe with Curry in 2016 and held his own. Hit the dagger 3 and everything.

He may or may not have “always” been this good, but he certainly didn’t play like it. Half ass effort on defense, lots of space cadet moments on and off the court, really nothing but pretty handles, pretty layups, and inconsistent shooting.

This guy, the one playing right now, has not been seen almost ever. Locked in on both ends, solid defense, plus the ball-on-a-string offense.

Luka riding another little scoring guard to playoff success, maybe this time he will cherish what he has in Kyrie and has learned from taking Brunson for granted so not pushing to keep him around.

Kyrie seems to enjoy playing with Doncic and being apart of the Mavs Org.

Mavs are a very scary team. A bunch of dudes that play defense, 2 lob threats who are high level rim protectors at the 5. Then the Luka/Kyrie offensive duo.

It’s just so hard to hold those two down for an entire game. And their defense keeps them close enough for Luka and Kyrie to do their magic.

It looks like Kyrie can only succeed if (1) he has a player clearly better than him on the roster and (2) that said player has a commanding influence to temper Kyrie's mental volatility. In the absense of this level of player, Irving becomes a team cancer like he was on the Nets and Celtics.

Such a strangely unique player, a joy to watch when things are going well with him.
