Agree that Embiid brought the effort, but he didn't really have a great game. Poor shooting night. He scored a lot because of the high volume of FGAs and FTAs

He’s still not as good
Sixers are selling out their whole defense to make sure Brunson doesn’t get it going. Maxey isn’t facing close to the same defense.
But that’s neither here nor there. Maxey choked in the end while Brunson came up big in those last seconds.

Crazy that a player can put up 34pts 10rbs and 6 ast and get knocked for it. That’s a testament to how great Embiid is.

Lots of dudes can score 34 on 29 shots.

If Bradley Beal at this stage in his career scored 34 points on 29 shots everybody would say he had a great game. But when Embiid does it’s nothing special.

Maxey is also a 2nd option so he doesn’t get the amount of looks that Brunson gets. Maxey is 1st in the playoffs in TS% Brunson might be dead last. Maxey is 4 years younger and there isn’t a clear gap between the two at the moment other than the gap in playoff performance.

Maxey averages 20 shots a game for the season. He’s averaging 24 a game in the 1st 2 games of this series. That’s with a top 5 player as his first option.
He’s getting mainly single coverage. Brunson has a man on his hip before the ball is inbounded and gets trapped or double/triple teamed once the ball gets in his hands over half court.
If Maxey was truly the better player, he wouldn’t be a negative in the box score 2 games in a row and the Sixers wouldn’t be 0-2. Simple as that.

Nope
I’m not giving him credit for playing while injured. If he’s out there, he should be playing his ass off and hustling in moments like that. He might’ve kept it close, but his lack of hustle cost them the game.
The big fella played 39 minutes on one leg to even get them to that point. That rebound was not a lack of hustle, that was just being completely gassed and getting outworked by one of the best offensive rebounders in the game.
Even when Embiid is healthy, that team is one of the worst defensive rebounding teams. Again, lack of hustle. It’s on him. If he’s not healthy, he shouldn’t be playing. Stop making excuses for the opps.

It's not really a lack of hustle though when he's the main reason they're not the worst rebounding team in the NBA. They also ask him to anchor their defense and carry their offense...and if he didn't play this game wouldn't have been close enough for that rebound to matter, they'd get swept in consecutive blowouts.
Why would I be making excuses? I don't care about Embiid one way or the other and I'm a knicks fan, just making observations.
