Redraft 2016 - who are the top 10?

Post#1 » by One_and_Done » Fri Apr 26, 2024 5:18 am

Who would go top 10 in a redraft of 2016?

My rough thoughts at this time would be:

1. Jaylen (#3)
2. J.Murray (#7)
3. Siakam (#27)
4. Sabonis (#11)
5. D.Murray (#29)
6. Ingram (#2)

After that it's tricky, especially given Simmons used to be good.

I use this draft as example of how much opinion of players and their redraft position flips over time and how fast things in NBA changes. Had this thread dozens of times, results always get altered, sonetimes drastically. Not sure who I would rather take first, but this draft was pretty good with some late blooming talents.

Also, at this point we doing a bit with Siakam's name? Personally, don't find it funny, but ok.

2 guys have proven to be great number 2 on championship teams. Now that doesn't mean they're automatically better but given how close the talent gap is, I'd give the edge to Siakam with Murray closing the gap.

I'd say both Lowry and Gasol were arguably as/more valuable than Siakam.

Siakam landing with Raps and Dejounte landing with Spurs were integral to their development. Really doubt they become the players they are without landing on good developmental teams.

Interesting take although I did like Dejounte even on Draft night. He was a lock as a lotto pick in my books so the bigger surprise to me was him slipping to the end of the 1st round than him becoming a good player.

On topic, there is no clear cut best player in that Draft. I guess this is one of the few cases you draft for team needs. You can't really go wrong with any of those guys.

Lowry, yes... Gasol, no.

The whole team other than Kawhi had major ups and downs from game to game. That's the benefit of being as deep as that 2019 squad was and that's considering OG didn't play all playoffs due to injury.

Not a great draft. A bunch of solid players, but none of these are the type you dream about when your team gets the #1 pick. These are all what you're hoping for when you have picks 4-6 lol.

Hope and reality are different things. I would call this draft really good.

Not if your team had the number one pick, you wouldn't, lol.

Well, it was working out for 76ers for a while there, but yes  but even if you have hindsight and can pick Siakam or Sabonis or Jaylen, you trully can do much worse very very often even if you have a nimber one pick.

Ranking Jamal Murray is the biggest dilemma of this class because it is so rare for star players to produce up to 20% better numbers in the postseason than during the regular season (of active players maybe Jimmy Butler can be compared), and he is not franchise-player type of star but a perfect "Robin" (to Batman) co-star. If your team's goal is a ring and nothing less, he should be the #1 pick, but teams with the TOP3 draft picks without already taken franchise-player talent rarely dream of a title and are not ready to "waste" their high pick in superb "2nd option" guy. They just want to make the playoffs at all in the near future, and in that situation, Jamal Murray is not even TOP3 choice in such an even year despite being the best player out of this group of players when it most matters for title purposes.

1 Sabonis
2 Brown
3 Siakam
4 Murray
5 Murray
6 Ingram
7 VanVleet
8 Simmons
9 Hield
10 Zubac

Jamal Murray goes first for me. Everyone else doesn't matter.

Proven as a second option. He's got the clutch gene and performs his best under high pressure games. Just build a competent team around him and you have a perennial sleeper contender.

There are 4-6 all-nba type guys, not including Simmons before he started sucking. Very much above average draft

Kind of absurd to see Sabonis winning this.

I mean, Ben Simmons is still a 3-time all star and if I knew I'd get that from him, he's probably still number 3 or 4 to me.

One good playoff run doesn’t equate to #1. Most of the top guys would be great second options playing along Jokic. You have guys with multiple all star selections, all nba selections, which Murray has neither of.

Fr.. insanely hard to build around non defensive Cs.

For me in tiers:

JB/JMurray

Siakam

Sabonis/DJM
