Rudy Gobert is the most underrated player in the NBA

Post#1 » by DLoMor » Mon Apr 29, 2024 5:04 am

Everyone was writing him off, but now this year he has been a solid defender, and has helped the TWolves be great, without Gobert, the Twolves would not have made it this far, Gobert should be appreciated more.

Inb4 the round 2 Gobert memes when Minnesota has a bad game against Jokic or AD.

No. Gobert still needs to prove that he can stay on the floor when teams go small in the playoffs.

Totally agreed. He was a top 5 player in 2021 (dare I say top 3) and never got his flowers for it. Then, he got traded for what he was worth and everyone mocked it. If Denver can't repeat, I'm rooting for the Wolves

Unbelievable that this ridiculous narrative is still clinging to life.
Don’t make it personal, don’t take it personal.

Sellers don’t set market value. Buyers don’t set market value.
Market value only exists when two (or more) parties are in agreement.

Gobert's a generational defensive player who is durable like Mutombo. Minnesota is a dominant team right now. Do y'all not realize how ridiculous that is? This is a losing franchise.

Ant Man gets the props and he should, but bringing in Gobert to give the team an identity was genius. I doubt Utah ever puts a roster together as good as the one Minnesota has from those picks. They should have never traded Rudy.

Totally agree with OP : Antman is the offensive captain while Gobert is the one on defense. He brought (with the coach) a defensive mindset to Minny, and they simply dominate on that end. Who would have thought of Minny as a premiere defensive team honestly ?

MIN is the worst matchup for DEN from all WC teams. So I could call this series - Gobert career PO series. He has a great team and will play against champions.

People get caught up in spacing too much to realize just how effective he is when he's on the court. He's not perfect, nor is he some superstar. But as a defensive specialist he's elite. He has basically allowed KAT to flourish by covering all of his weaknesses.

I know a player who averages 30-15 in the playoffs, carried his team's defense on his back whole season and is arguably the best defender of his generation not getting even a nod for DPOY.

He already has. He only got "played off the floor" in one series, that one against the CP3-Harden Rockets, which was a particularly difficult matchup that would've given fits to just about every big man.

Gobert is pretty good at defending in space nowadays, he's not slow. You just need some point of attack defense to aid him so that he doesn't have to cover everything all the time. Didn't have it with the Jazz, does with the Wolves.

Gobert is a good piece next to KAT, Ant and Conly and he adds flexibility to their roster. They can play super big (i.e. against Denver) but they can also play without him (i.e. smaller teams) But for sure he's not a $50 million dollar piece.

It's not only the quality of the player that matters, but also the cap impact determines true value. I still think it's a stupid trade they made.

I love this Wolves team, but the Suns aren't exactly the litmus test in terms of competition.

No offense Suns fans.

It's easier to stay on the floor when teams go small if your other defenders can also cover for you.

That's what is forgotten too many times. Gobert on Utah was covering for everyone else, but there was no one to cover for him.

I agree he is underrated. But just wait until he has a bad series and then the topic will be "He is the most overrated player in the league".

He was injured and playing last season. I don’t think he’s been underrated, the man has legit gotten better at basketball.
