Maxey is a second option to the most double teamed player in the league. He’s wide open.

Brunson is a first option with no second option.

No comparison in degree of difficulty.

I think Brunson is more crafty in the ISO game but Maxey is more efficient because he is a speed demon and finishes well around the rim and hits 3PT shots. He is sort of the ideal player on a championship team layups and 3's all day.

Is Brunson the better ISO player? Yes. But is he good enough to be your best player and win a championship? We'll see I guess. I don't think so. I don't think he is nearly as good off the ball as Maxey.

deeper team? the Knicks are playing a very thin rotation with Randle and Bojan out, they were basically playing 7 guys when Mitch was out and now are playing 8 - 76ers are pretty deep actually, they're playing about a 9-10 man rotation but they actually have a few more NBA caliber players who are getting DNPs like Hield, Mo Bamba and KJ Martin

moreover, if we focus on the offensive end - the 76ers are much deeper

Knicks have great defender and hustle guys, like Hart and OG but both aren't exactly elite offensive players :)
DDV is an excellent shooter and good finisher, it can be argued he's the only above average offensive player (other than Brunson) in their starting 5, if Hartenstein is basically ur 2nd best option as far as initiating offense...

ur right about Brunson not being as good off ball as Maxey but under Thibs that's not really relevant, so many iso's and very high usage for Brunson which makes sense considering his teammates. in a faster paced offense Maxey can really shine, Brunson is better for the half-court Thibs style of play

Maxey is extremely quick and fast, Brunson is very quick (and craftier) but he isn't nearly as fast, Maxey might be the fastest player in the league and that's a big problem

Brunson has the leadership and fight/will to win that is rare in the NBA.... he's the clear choice right now but he's almost 28 and Maxey is still 23 he's about 4.5 years younger and likely is still getting better where Brunson is pretty likely in his prime and is who he is... which is a great player peaking as a top 15 guy in the league which is tremendous for where he was picked from.

I am biased towards Maxey on my team but Brunson is the better player and the heart and soul for the Knicks.

Unfortunately, advance metrics has backed up your argument this season.

And he has made enough clutch winning baskets over missed ones too. Can't say the same for your Randy.

Currently, Brunson no question. In a few years it could be Maxey though, especially if something happens with Embiid.

It's pretty close, neither are top 15 players, but somewhere between 15 and 25. I'll take Brunson because I feel he is a better PG. Maxey cannot make the passes Brunson can, although close generating a similar amount of assists, but a lot of that comes from Embiid either by directly passing to him, or using the space. So just because of Embiid's greatness, I also lean towards Brunson, if that makes sense. Both are pretty bad defenders.

I agree with you on this one. As much as I love Maxey playing next to Embiid, we all saw what happened to the team once the big man was out for a couple of months.

As of now Jalen but the way Tyrese has improved each season makes me believe he will be definitively better than him within the next couple seasons. He's only 23 and see him as someone who will make 2nd or 3rd team NBA at least a few times in his career.

Brunsons not a superstar?

IMO no...there are very few "superstars" in the league 5-10 total maybe, he is definitely an all-star and elite player but I do not grant him the rank of superstar. The levels in my mind are as follows, and to me he just hoped from Level 3 to 2 in the last year or so:

Superstars - Top 10 player in the league (Giannis, Jokic, Lebron, Curry, Embiid, Luka, etc)
All-Star Caliber - Top 10-30 player in the league, almost always an all-star unless injury (Dame, Brunson, AD, Kyrie, Kawhi, PG13, etc)
Bordeline All-Star - Top 30-50 player in the league, make a couple all-star in their career (Trae, Lavine, Mitchell, etc)
True Starter - Almost always a starter for career, but not all-star level besides an outlier year (Conley, Bam, Vuc, Green, etc)
Borderline Starter - Could start, could be a great 6th man (i think of Lou Williams, Jamal Crawford)
Bench - self explanatory

Brunson. He's literally carrying the Knicks' offense in ways Maxey doesn't have to because he plays with Embiid.

Maxey has a chance to surpass him though in a couple years. We'll see.

You just saw Brunson carry the Knicks all season.

What would Maxey have done in Brunson's spot? Similar record? Better? Worse?

Answer is likely worse.
