Where will Paul George sign next season?
It was rumored recently that Orlando and Philadelphia are monitoring his contract status with the Clippers.
Philadelphia could have close to $65m but would have to release the cap holds on Springer, Reed, and Melton. If they chose to keep them, then they'd have around $40m in space.
Orlando will have over $40m in cap space if they release cap holds of Okeke, Ingles, Harris, and Fultz.
The Clippers would have to pay a fortune in taxes to keep him. Plus, they'd be over the 2nd apron and limited on how they could improve the team.

OKC and Philly have huge incentive to sign him in part because OKC owns the next three Clipper picks and Philly owns two Clipper picks as well.

I was thinking that OKC would go after Hartenstein or Claxton.HadAnEffectHere wrote:OKC and Philly have huge incentive to sign him in part because OKC owns the next three Clipper picks and Philly owns two Clipper picks as well.

people need to factor in that PG is from Southern California and probably wants to stay there unless the Clippers low ball him very badly- they probably offer him a very similar contract to Kawhi. They are kind of forced to offer contracts to Harden and PG as Kawhi signed a 3-year extension. Then, after that do a rebuild. Should probably have started earlier due to Kawhi's injuries- but too late for that now.

He's not leaving California. Its not really about winning, its about the best situation. Weather and Endorsements is really the main motivator for a lot of these guys. He can get both in LA. If the Knicks or Miami shed money then maybe.

Are the Clips gonna offer him that 4th year? Cause there are some desperate teams out there that would. He's 34, so this is his last big contract and the Clips likely dont want to give him more years than they gave Kawhi, no? He's also only experienced failure in LA and the future doesnt really look any better. If a team offers him cumulatively 40-50 mill over 4 years, you think he'll stay?

I think that the Clippers are going to be forced into matching whatever offer he gets. He doesn’t care about a ring he cares about living in his hometown and the “greatest city in the world” to hear him tell it. Basically he’ll use other teams as leverage to get the biggest Ballmer contract he can.
With them opening a new stadium, letting George and Harden walk is just not on the table.

Re: Where will Paul George sign next season?
It really just depends on how much he wants to win. If he wants to win a title before he retires the answer is obvious - he can't re-sign in LA. There are a few suitors who would give him a better opportunity to do that.
If his priority is being in SoCal and chilling on the beach and he isn't overly concerned with winning - a lot of people are convinced that this is the case - then I'm sure he'll stay.

I think ultimately the Clippers give in to his salary demands and he stays, but if not, Philly.

OKC doesn't need Paul George or the picks. They have a good thing going, those Clipper picks are probably getting traded anyway.

If all things are equal, Florida doesn't have state taxes. In California, it's 7.25%, and Pennsylvania it is 6%.

He either stays and chills in LA or goes to Orlando imo. I dont think he would particularly enjoy a high pressure scenario of signing with a contender.

huh ? Pennsylvania's income tax rate is 3%..considering that tax only applies for home games, it's not a significant tax rate vs states that have no state income tax..also top line tax rate for California is 12% for people making >$1M, not 7.25%

Re: Where will Paul George sign next season?
In order:
Clippers- Harden and George take a small paycut
Sixers- gives Embiid his 3rd star and I actually love the fit there
Magic- 3 6'10 playmakers/scorers? Yes please.

How does he fit with the Magic? PG plays same position as Paolo and Franz. Magic need a better play making guard next to Suggs or a better big than Carter. The last thing they need is another wing (SF/PF) when they have two of them with All NBA potential that are only 22 and 21 years old.

Franz is probably the best SG defender on the team. He was 21st in the league this season with a 2.3 defensive EPM. Surprisingly, Franz' defense is ahead of his offense. With Wendell, Suggs, Franz, Isaac, and Paul George, they'd have 5 of the top 30 defensive EPM players.jbsays wrote:How does he fit with the Magic? PG plays same position as Paolo and Franz. If not the Clippers I think Philly or OKC.

Yeah, George doesn't strike me as a player that really cares about winning. He doesn't have that competitive spark. He'll sign with whatever team provides him the best money and living situation and that's likely LA.
