Donovan Mitchell Scores 50 Points and Cavs Still Lose

Post#1 » by iLLmatic860 » Sat May 4, 2024 1:44 am

Now obviously Spida is ballin but Why they hell did Cavs give up a superstar trade package when they clearly aren't ready just to be stuck in the middle? Normally you make that kind of trade when you already have that guy. Barely can get out 1st round

I still think they win this series but something about this team lacks toughness and does not feel like a legit contender even when everything is clicking?

What do they need to do?

Trade one of Mobley or Allen and commit to a better offense. Go get a floor spacing big or a high volume SF.

Like the guy above said, they should be playing 5 out.

How come it's the franchise record? Didn't LeBron scored 51 points against the Warriors in 2018 NBA Finals?

The team lacks coaching. The offense is terrible. Just 4 guys sitting around watching Donovan limp around. No movement and the 2 guards just wait until there is 10 seconds left before anything gets going.

The Cavs have talent, they just have no offensive structure at all. There is no urgency.

Seriously. Like great performance by Mitchell but watching great team offenses like say the Pacers or even Knicks (who spread the ball around) - and then watching the Cavs tonight is night & day. It's partly coaching, partly the front office. I mean they seriously are playing guys like Niang and Morris minutes in a playoff game. But it's coaching also - run screens with Mobley, post Mobley up and he can find cutters, diversify somehow.

To be fair, Allen and Wade are hurt. If those guys are playing, Niang and Morris see 0 minutes...or close to it.

Cleveland signed shooters this past offseason, and none of them have contributed anything in this series.

Our Achilles heel vs. the Knicks last year was spacing. This Cavs team that we're seeing is basically the same team that got knocked out of the first round in 2023.

I don't think coaching is the issue. The problem is pretty obvious, and Mitchell has to operate with little to no spacing.

Paolo scored 39 in a loss in the last game.

How does a Mobley or Allen for Miles Bridges sound?

This is simply not true and gets repeated ad nausem. It was a combo of shooting and being totally out physically challenged which is happening again. Outside of Mobley and Allen they are significantly undersized injury prone and generally weak at all other positions. They addressed half of the problem in theory and completely ignored arguably the bigger flaw

Trouble for Cleveland is what will do in their off season if Mitchell isn't willing to sign an extension
.
Part of me would love to see him traded to San Antonio, see how he could work with Wemby !

That’s a great way to alienate Mitchell…sign a low character guy to keep a high character guy

Is it true that Shai didn’t want to play for the Cavs?

Damn I still might have rolled the dice and drafted him over Sexton regardless. Even Mikal Bridges would have been a major win because they knew Lebron was leaving.

I never liked the Mitchell trade. They have so many timelines intersecting on that Cavs team. Mobley/Allen/Garland/Mitchell is just an awkward fit of talent.

Cavs will continue to be regular season frauds for another year it seems. Even if they win game 7 just to get blown out by Boston, that team is not built for the playoffs until proven otherwise.

He was getting in the paint and scoring at will. Very impressive for a guy his size. He carried the team as best he could. Dissapointied in Garland tho.

Garland would be a better fit for wemby as he's a more natural and willing passer.

A player scoring 50 and the team not breaking 100 is wild to me.

Wonder how many times that has happened ? Would have thought it is a rarity/anamoly.
