Ty Lue is probably the only coach he has picked , and he was denied the chance to have him back and got Vogel instead.

Ham - Maybe?

He did pick Ham but he didn’t understand he thought he was ordering lunch. Pelinka “hey LeBron you want ham?” “Sure Rob I am starving”

Watch LeBron in team huddles and you'll realize no one coaches him. He does what he wants and has for a very long time.

LeBron didn't exactly "pick" Lue ... it was more along the lines of he greatly preferred Lue (the African American former NBA player and assistant who was already helping the team in numerous ways) to David Blatt.

And even if a GM ever asked LeBron during an off-season who he wanted to coach him, many candidates would have turned down the opportunity for various reasons.

Handpicked? That's neither here nor there.

Had significant involvement in major decisions impacting the franchises he's with?

Yes absolutely, that's been pretty apparent and we'd be naive to think a $ Billion athlete didn't have major influence in decision making across the board.

Krause went against Jordan on something’s early on… Oakley being a major one, Krause also got vetoed by Jiordan later in his career with the Shawn Kemp for Pippen trade and later with the TMac for Pippen trade. Your top player has influence for sure.

I think it only happened one time with Lue in 2016.

Paul Silas as a rookie - obviously no
Interim Brendan Malone - non starter
Mike Brown (05-10): no 20 year old is going to handpick a coach, especially bc Brown was only in his 30s and had no prior experience
Spo: no, although he did try to get Riley to coach which is a demerit against him, but no
David Blatt: no, hired before he was signed

So that’s five definite “no” to start the career

Ty Lue: this is the first one that you can actually point to. Lue was on the coaching staff and clearly connected to LeBron and the other guys better than Blatt. YES, we’ll count this one

Luke Walton: definitely not

Frank Vogel: Actually, no. LeBron pushed super hard for Lue, having previous experience with him, but Buss wouldn’t pay up and Lue went to the Clippers. So definitely a plan B, driven by the Lakers front office. Obviously he had coaching experience vs LBJ in the mid 2010s and LBJ would’ve had to give the OK, but definitely not “handpicked”

Darvin Ham: There is absolutely zero evidence that LeBron was clamoring for Milwaukee assistant Darvin Ham behind the scenes all of 2022. It actually seems like he really impressed the owners and Pelinka and then won LBJ over rather than the other way around.

So really, only once. Just once. He did push for coaches to get fired (Blatt, Spo, Walton), but that’s different than hand picking coaches.

This. He’s definitely picked a lot of his teammates but the coaches? Nah.
